:tu: Frenchy.
I've always wondered if this was possible and how to do it. I've resorted to exporting the selection as an Alpha, exporting the Alpha to psd, editing the pixels in PS, and then importing it all the way back into the selection. Try doing several iterations of that to get the perfect selection!! :(

Wow, Frenchy, you're one helluva discoverer! :D

Frenchy,
Are you really selecting a facet? Or are you selecting a vertex? See what happens when you select only one facet, then Inflate (deflate) the object with a -100. Does it give you a facet as a plateau or a vertex as a peak?
Next try marking a cluster of four facets and deflate again. Does this now give you a facet as a plateau? I think this means that four vertices have been selected...

Maybe Aurick has the answer?

From my experience, it is the vertices that are selected:

Thanks Frenchy Pilou :) In 1.55b, the selection is indeed vertex based.
The next version of ZBrush will include powerful enhancements to the mesh-level interactivity.
One such enhancement is the selection&editing of PolyGroups...

:b3: :b3:The next version will be made available as a free upgrade to purchasers of the current (or earlier) versions of ZBrush. :b3: :b3:

Thanks Frenchy, for opening this topic. :) Pixolator, those enhancements sound great... :tu: :tu: :tu:

I have said facet because it's was that I have seen :) I have forgotten "Take the Alpha Brush 0" for a better vision.
In any case with this method you can choice complicated selection :)

Hi Frenchy,
Explicit selection of facets (vertices) is indeed a very helpful ability... I add my thanks for pointing it out and intend to make full use of it.
Now Pixolator reveals another surprise - polygroups, which will add another magnitude of usefulness and control in the 1.6 release of ZBrush.
I wonder how many other enhancements are still up his sleeve? I love these teasers he posts. If this keeps up imagine what release 2.0 will be like!

Hi Frenchy!
Cool thread you started here.
Here is an adaptive skin house zscript that shows my technique for doing this (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010253)... I also bring the brush size down to one but I make sure that the intensity slider is at 100.
Pix,
Thanks for the sneak peek! Looks great, will we be able to make our own group selections or will we still have to rely on the Zspheres to designate the groups?
Take care,
Michael

Hi Adamac
I put your traduction in Google translator and obtain this :)
"est que vous avez bien générique plus uvmapper maintenant sûrement le mineur or zbrush produits nous toute mettez au rebut dissimulé boîte"
It's funny, you surely right but I have some difficulties to follow (it's the fault of translator) :)
Hi Push
It's your script that I have seen but the manipulation was a mystery for me !
I have seen the red boutton cursor choice the "facet/vertex" but not idea for obtain that :) What was your method ? similar than mine ?
In any case Pix has cut the "Gordian Knot" It's vertex :)
Pilou
will you be able to make groups in zbrush this will be the great feature and will help draw new converts
just imagine the implications with uv mapping alone!
"" est que vous avez plus de uvmapper bien générique maintenant sûrement le mineur les maintenant produits de zbrush nous tout a mis à la boîte de fragment dissimulée"
is that you have more well generic uvmapper now surely the minor the now products of zbrush we all put to the fragment can concealed"
that's pretty funny :) english to german to french to english the trick is to seperate sentences well
Non non non mettre uvmapper générique dans les déchets trou interminable. ... :)
et vous avez découvert zbrushs le trésor caché toujours
I think ZBC needs a Babelfish brush -- what if someone posts a question in Coptic and Aurick answers in Coptic? ;)
Wow, the grouping would be useful for making poser figures, like UVMapper. But what happened to displacement mapping?

Wheww!!
The Z-Brush conversations really flow deep.
Is Z-Brush science or Art!?

Pusghetty,
I just finished downloading and watching your house and building script. It was awesome and now I understand the vertex
selection :)
thank you pixolater, that is also a feature i am missing badly ! cant wait.
Gulp! Zed is looking less and less like a toy to me! :tu:

Pilou,
I used the same method as you... starting from the lower left hand corner and dragging up to the upper right hand corner... it seems this is the only way to do it!
I guess I should have embellished more on my technique when I first posted the script.
I am glad you brought it up though, alot of people can benefit from this type of single facet selection.
Moogal,
You can export a Zsphere skin with groups in 1.55b, This does help with making Poser figures. You still need to use uvmapper though because the groups are not broken down enough to form all the joints you need for Poser.
In 1.55b however you cannot yet make groups by selecting individual polygons.
From what Pix said, it sounds like this is what version 1.6 will do.
Displacement maps are only one of many new features that are supposed to be part of the next upgrade. I am positive that they will still be a cool new feature in 1.6.
Arfgraf,
Thanks for the compliment! I am glad you found the script useful! Keep up the good work!
Best regards,
Michael
Thank you thou master of "Z" Amazing stuff!!!

Hi Push
Confused that I have re-used your method
(I think that nobody can find that with just seeing the script, I have rediscovered this by hasard! :)
But Delighted that could help someone before the next release :)
Have good Zbrushing

Pix...This bings about a question. Will this polygroup selection allow for texturing a model with multi-mapping methods???...all the better for low-poly game models!!! What about masking said groups for better optimization control???
