You should check out this thread. http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=016352

It has to do with the way you are trying to place zspheres.

I guess I need to use words as well as pictures;) My question is, when you look at the zsphere model, the middle finger is close to the pointer finger. When I make the adaptive skin, it is close to the pinky and bending towards the pointer finger. I am trying to understand what causes this to occur, so I can avoid it. Is it, possibly, how the palm sphere is rotated? Any hints would be helpful. I just seem to keep making it worse. Than ks.

Its because zspheres are like cubes, set at your current resolution there are only 6 faces for other spheres to attach to and your middle finger is going to attach to the same face as the pinky finger, based on what I can tell from your picture and the way the palm sphere is rotated. You can increase the resoultion of your palm sphere so there are more faces for other sphere to attach to or reposition the fingers.

How do I set the resolution to the first zsphere? This doesn't seem to be possible until I am adding more zspheres and then I get some really distorted results. Thanks.

You should check out TVeyes' excellent XYZ Adjust2 script. (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=015681)

It allows you to edit the x, y, and z res values of ZSpheres, as well as their membrane settings.
