I've played with the Alpha > Make 3d button and found it really difficult to control, but I never tried doing solid silhouettes... it really makes sense now that you've illustrated it like this... cool stuff

I did think it was fun though to throw wierd alphas at it and see what crazy forms I would get and what kind of wierd stuff I could sculpt it into... I thought about making a thread for it in the challenges forum because it would be neat to see what bizarre stuff the crazy gurus around here could make of it

That is a pretty cool technique. I don't think I've seen that here before during the many years and iterations of Zbrush. Not only is it simple, it is effective. At least on this character. Have you tried others? Have you tried more complex characters? This might be very helpful to some people. ;)
