View Full Version : QuadQuick: Multi-View modeling for ZBrush
<center><font size=3>Introducing <font size=5><font color=#FFA000>Quad</font>Quick</font> -- multiple view port modeling for ZBrush</font>
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1033332998qei.jpg </center>
There have been numerous requests over the last year or so for multiple view port modeling in ZBrush. Now, with <font color=#FFA000>Quad</font>Quick, you can have it! This powerful utility allows you to display your model from four different views while you work:
:b2: Isometric
:b2: Top
:b2: Right
:b2: Front
All four views can be displayed at the same time:
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1033333529umv.jpg
Or you can switch to enlarge a single view port:
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1033333557wjq.jpg
Here are a few of the features:
::Customizeable backgrounds allow import of a reference picture for use while modeling. Each quadrant can be assigned its own background.
::Transform mode is remembered when you switch between views. For example, if you have the Rotate Gyro active when you switch views, it will still be active in the new view. This holds true for all gyros, Edit>Draw mode and Edit>Move mode.
::Refresh button refreshes the model in all four quadrants or returns you to Quad view from Single view.
::When using the Refresh button to switch out of Single view, the active view is remembered when you switch back to Quad view. So if you're working in a Single view of the Front and switch back to Quad view, the Front quadrant will automatically be active. And it will still remember your Transform mode!
::Built-in tutorial explains the basics for those who wish to dive right in.
::Comprehensive PDF User's Guide explains the script at length for those who want more details or would like to have something to refer to while they work.
::It's FREE! :)

Aurick:
Spectacular enhancement for ZBrush. Does ZScript recording work properly if you are switching views?

Cheers aurick dude, I think we all needed a pickmeup, this looks fabulous :)
You know, Bruce, I really don't know! That's probably the only thing that I haven't tested. I believe that it would, provided that you start the recording before you load QuadQuick and then the person playing the recording back loads QuadQuick when the recording calls for it. But that's something that would have to be tested.
i haven't checked it all out but i thought you should know you need to put the QQTemplate inside the folder..
error on show and tell..
looks cool tho.
when extracted you get a Folder and QQTemplate on the out side
Fixed. Thank you, EZ. WinZip does some strange things sometimes.
you need to Disable the ( Refreash) button UNTIL the other one is seleteted First on top.
because if you load the Model and THEN hit refreah you will get a error

Wooheee!! I'd pretty much resigned myself that this was the one thuing ZBrush was never gonna be able to do. The BEST keeps getting BETTER. :} Jim
Wow! Way cool. This is going to be great! thanks.
OK. For anyone who has downloaded before this moment, you can either download it again or open the script and change
[VarDef,View]
to be
[VarDef,View,4]
It's within the first 20 lines of the script, and will prevent the error that EZ encountered. If you press Refresh before selecting a view for the first time, it will automatically activate the Front quadrant after Refreshing.
I don't think anyone caught that before because everyone testing it chose a view after starting rather than refreshing. After all, there are no changes to refresh yet!
Pure Genius Aurick! How cool is this!!!!
you can use this if you deside to need it
::DoubleRotate.txt (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_file-1033339126pvz.txt)
you can Roatate and Veiw at the Same Time.
Both images

When I press the refresh button (using an imported object) I repeatedly get a "specified item within the list is empty" error (Var, view)". Also, the quadrant where I originally draw the object seems to retain both the original drawn object and an overlaid one. Neither error is affecting the functionality. Stii VCool!. Jim
Jim, my last post addresses that first problem. Either redownload the script or change the one line of code.
The second issue is because you're not supposed to draw the object! The script draws the object for you and places it in Edit Mode so that you can sculpt it. Please follow the instructions in the Show Me or the User's Guide.

That's seems less poetic than the instinctive mouse rotation in Edit mode (T)but very useful and reassuring for the engineer :)
Bravo for the script

Even as someone who does not model regularly, I'm impressed. When I do eventually get around to having another go at modelling, I'm sure this utility will be immensely useful. Thank you. :tu: :tu: :tu:

is there a way to map buttons to keys?
IE q=isoview
w=front
r=side
etc?
I have already provided keyboard shortcuts. If you mouse over the various buttons, it will show you what they are.
Shift+1 = Isometric
Shift+2 = Top
Shift+3 = Right
Shift+4 = Front
Shift+5 = Refresh
Shift+6 = Set Model
Shift+7 = Isometric (single view)
Shift+8 = Top (single view)
Shift+9 = Right (single view)
Shift+0 = Front (single view)
I tried to make it really intuitive. :)

Does this work for Zbrush 2? Is it a good thing to use?

I haven't tried it yet, but anything you find useful is a good thing to use!
ZB just gets better & better, all this free stuff & great scripts, other apps could learn a lot from you guys. :D
Hey Spaceboy,
I tried this with v1.55 and it didn't work. The imported view were skewed. I was told at the time that it was not written with 1.55 in mind so I don't think it would work well with 2.0
Anyone else have experience with this?

Link to download doesn't work!

I'm getting a broken link error message as well.
I just tested the download link and it worked fine. It may have been a temporary internet routing issue, or you might not have been logged into ZBC when you tried to access the link.
Just an FYI: Download links here at ZBC should be accessed using your internet browser rather than some kind of download assistant software.

Hi i tried this script and had a few problems that in my opinion makes this rather how... would i say limited
- Scaling, everythime i press refresh the model is is scaled to fill all the views, it gets a bit boring to rescale them all the time
- Update time. Clicking on refresh, top, front or anything else causes the script to "show you how its done" so that im forced to watch as the mouse point moves from one place to another.
It would be great if the following versions of zbrush would have four view modeling as an option. I do now that zbrush is not designed to be user in that way, but it would be great. All in all this is a good script for bringing different modeling technique to zbrush.
Very nice Zscript. Thanks man :tu:

What's the latest version for QQ? I'd like to view a model in separate monitor altogether, is this possible? If not, is this a possible feature in a future release? Why or why not? (Sorry if someone answered this already, I'm lazy today).

Totally nub question here, but how do I access the script once I extract it to the Zplugs folder? I didn't see anything in the .pdf explaining how to enable it (looked in the plugins palette and didn't see anything).
QuadQuick was written before plugins existed. That means that it does not go into your ZPlugs folder. Instead, it should go into your ZScripts folder. It then needs to be manually loaded via the ZScript palette.
This is a very old script, which I've never been able to find the time to update to ZBrush 2. I'd actually recommend that you use the Reference Image (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=26585) plugin by marcus_civis instead.

And I'd recommend you use Reference Image 2 (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=038313) instead. :)
Although you can only work with one view visible there is an option to see a snapshot of all views. Give it a try.
Actually, try as I may, I can not find any difference between reference image 1 and 2 by reading the descriptions. They appear to do the same thing, the same way, with the same features. Or is there something I'm missing...

Reference Image 1 uses a single image which must contain all your various reference views (front, left, right and so on). The scale of those views is therefore limited by how they fit on that image and the maximum canvas size.
Reference Image 2 uses separate images which can all be at the maximum canvas size (if you wish).
That's the main difference, which is largely one of convenience. Reference Image 2 has some extra features and extends features available in version 1. Which, if any, you prefer would depend on trying them to see which fitted best with your workflow.

Is there going to be a version of this for Z3 or is it built into the new version already? I figured they would have included this in the New Zbrush!
Is there going to be a version of this for Z3 or is it built into the new version already? There isn't even a version for Z2, specifically.
I figured they would have included this in the New Zbrush!I think it was a concession for old-world 3D users. Sort of a step backwards from the artist-centric paradigm. There may be times where it speeds up workflow*, but for the most part, it's neither efficient nor intuitive.
Plus, if you're giving up 75% of your useable screen space, and probably tripling the overhead required to work with any given model, you're really not taking advantage of what Z3 has to offer. ;)
*(it makes more sense for zspheres than pixols)
