Just wanted to drop in and let everyone know that I think this is a great community and I look forward to being a very active member.

I just got my hands on Zbrush2 and have spent a coupel hours getting familiar with the tools. I still have a long way to go but the ride has been fun so far. I have many things to unlearn (or turn off) from my current 3D knowledge as Zbrush works completely different then anything I have ever used....but Zspheres are ablast to work with....That is about as far as I've gotten. I can only hope to get to teh level some of you have as teh talent around here is simply amazing...

Here is my first Zbrush item....simple but a place to start :) http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200405/user_image-1085247140ktp.jpg

Hi Proton, welcome. I see you're jumping right into full form figures. Like to see what you do with this guy. Z is a horse of another color. there are people here doing things you can't tell from the regular 3D programs. Hope to see somemore of your work. Zya. 50.

So I just got back from a nature day with the wife and hopped back into ZBrush....Still loving Zspheres so I started on a creature just to learn more tools. Tried out Edge Loops and more....nothing too great here but I'm getting teh basics figured out...

Few things I'm struggling with:

>Selection is a problem for me...I understand how to do it but it feels very strange and difficult at times. Hidding everything but teh inner moouth took several tries...

>STill need to learn the actual painting tools better. I need better control (need more practice) and need to learn some of teh tools that were shown in teh fish movie to texture the over all object.

Any tips on gaining more control on selections and painting detail would be appreciated.

Here is my 2 nd item....hope to get more time in on this amazing tool! http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200405/user_image-1085270968ngc.jpg

Hi Proton its great to see you are using Zbrush and are part of this great forum. It will be great to see how you integrate (if at all) Zbrush models into Lightwave, as most of us Lightwave users have had trouble integrating Displacement maps, Normal maps and so on.
Welcome on behalf of all us Lightwave/Zbrush users.

Hey, welcome to Z-land Proton :)
ZedHead- ZBrush and Lightwave can in fact work together nicely now, thanks to Lynx3d's plugin- here's the link:
cool plug (http://lynx.aspect-design.de/plugins/normal_displace_info.htm)

Hi grub

I heard about this plug in, and of course downloaded it, but it still does not give me what I want which is essentialy results like NormalMapCreate plug in generates without the ugly black UV seam.
To be honest lynx's plug in does not seem to work at all, but then perhaps it is me not using it correctly.

Oh almost forgot, nice head pic Proton,
it looks like you might be having the same problem I first had when I started using Zbrush which is because of the abnormaly high level of detail you can have on a model you find yourself having to go back to the lab and learn about anatomy and muscle stucture as well having lots of reference photos in front of you when you begin. (Do you use a mouse or a tablet when working?)

You might check out what the others on SpinQuad are saying about teh Lynx tool...seems they have figured out how to use it and avoid all teh problems.

I'm using a mouse....so far I have just played around a bit...I plan on starting a complete project once I have som eof teh tools down...so far I have invested about 4-6 hours and will continue more when time is available...but we all know how that goes :)

Ps Don't hesitate to take a pen graphic, it's some better than a little mouse :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Not just for the information on how to use lynx's plug in, but also for directing me to a really cool lightwave forum. Gonna have to participate big time.

Yeah I know what you are saying about time, I've been meaning to finish off a few WIPS and upload them but my bloody job takes far to much time.

Getting the hang of using the transform settings...here is a test of just working on the belly... http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200405/user_image-1085461518qui.jpg

Hi Proton and welcome to the Zcommunity

Cool images too, I like the torso model in your last post. ZB does take some getting used to after using the conventional 3d modelers, but it gets to you and soon you will be quite familiar with its tools etc.
Just wondered if you are the 'Proton' from the Newtek forums?
Anyways I like the images which show your progress.

thanx again

Welcome Proton,

i see you are getting a hang on the tools. Sculpting in ZBrush really differs from other 3D-Soft but in a very pleasant manner.
The selection tools (or lack thereof) are... well a bit awkward.
I believe the addition of common selection tools for verts, lines and polys would greatly benefit this Software.
This and maybe some tools to alter the geometry like cut, merge etc. and i likely wont ever need another modeler :)

Im eager to see some of your forthcoming ZB-Works.

Thanx guys...so far my Z work is nothing to look at but hope to spend enough time where I'm as happy with my Z work as I am with LW.

Welcome aboard Proton :tu: Looks like you are having fun. For that lunch doodle blocking out the shape at a lower sub-D and then adding detail at a higher works best, but I guess you know that  Glad to see you here.

Saw you at the 3DFestival last year, did not see you this time. Were you there?

Yeah I was there...for a few extra days before teh show even...How could you miss seeing me...I'm as tall as a giant :)

I know, but when hunched in front of a computer you look almost human ;) Besides, I never got a ticket to the Lightwave 8 showing :( Does not matter now of course :)
