Hi all,and welcome to my tutorial
first i wonna to say that this is a very detailed tutorial about modeling a head using phoreferences.

i produced 6 videos for this tutorial, the first one is about how to use Zspheres to model a very simple mesh, the second and third videos are about how to model a base head mesh
and in the rest videos i will show u how to use photoreferences to model a realistic head in Zbrush..

here is the link to the tutorial:
http://www.cg-turk.com/index.php?story=006
(if the link will not open ,just copy the link and past it to your browser)

and if somebody wonna to save the videos he can use these links

This was a GREAT head tutorial in my opinion. It shows very good use of edge loops and polygroups and if you, like me, tend to get stuck after a while, working on heads, this tutorial is for you.

It's complete and shows great ways to work with "problem areas" like the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. Allthough the tutorial might be a bit "jumpy" sometimes it doesn't really matter. I liked it alot!

I've only been able to watch part one and have downloaded part 2 so far. The site hosting your files is a little annoying to use, but I do understand that it's free to use, so you have to take the bad with the good.

So far, I really like what you are showing in the movies. I have no trouble following what you are doing, even without notes. I will download the whole set and watch them.

If you can find another host for the files, I believe more people will watch them. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Not sure what happened to the text in my earlier post, but there was some, I promise! At that point I had only watched #1 and was in the process of downloading the others. Since then, I have watched 1-4 and am very impressed. Not only do you work at a speed where I can keep up with what you are doing, but you also seem to take the simplest approach to each step. This is probably the most I have learned about modeling a head from watching a tutorial.
I appreciate your contribution. I wish your files could be hosted somewhere in which they can be more easily downloaded, since one must wait a specific amount of time between downloads on your current host. But the wait is definitely worth it, so anyone reading this should go ahead and download the movies and watch them.

This looks like it would be a cool tute series to check out, but I am unable to download those files - I'm assuming that they are gone now because it has been so long. Are these files available elsewhere? I would love to get my hands on them. Thank you very much in advance - I really appreciate it!

ChillWill....the files are still available. I downloaded them just today, and they are worth watching. When you get to the site in the links, look at the table shown with the various choices. Choose the one that says "free". You will get a sort of countdown timer that starts at .8 and eventually gets to zero and will then link you to the download mirror sites. I had the best luck with one that had "global" in the name (can't remember exactly what the name was). You are then required to type in a code that shows up to prevent automatic downloaders from accessing the site. Anyway, you will have to wait about 15 minutes before you can try another file. As I said though, it's worth the effort.

Ok - cool - got it. I'm a knucklehead. I have never used Rapidshare before I was too dense to realize that there was a link at the bottom of the page - DOH. Thank you for setting me straight. Downloading and checking them out...

Thanx guy,

Slosh and Jayful thanx for your nice explanations ;) ,

hey guys, yes i know that rapidshare is not good ,but i dont have any other place for now...
but if somebody wonna to help the community,he/she can put them to any other host, where they can be easily downloaded
then i and the guys who will use these videos will thanx him...

but if u wonna to download the videos without some minutes waiting,
after downloading one video disconnect your connection, then reconnect to the internet and download other one....

or just use this code:
ipconfig /flushdns in the command window (start>run>cmd.exe>ipconfig /flushdns)

Thanks for this nice tutorial!

@JamesPea****: Hold CTRL+SHIFT and drag a rectangle over your mesh - only these parts get visible. You can define a Polygroup (which gets an own colour then) by selecting an area as described and clicking on Polygroups->Group visible in the "Tool" palette. If you hold CTRL+SHIFT and click on such a Polygroup, it gets visible and the rest of the mesh gets invisible. Holding CTRL+SHIFT and clicking outside your model will get everything visible again.

Hope that helped you a bit.

regards,
Marco

This tutorial looks really amazing, unfortunately I can't download it (except the first part :( ).

Can someone please re-upload the other parts?

I really want it :P

I'm new in the ZBrush world, and I want to learn about the program... Actually I'm using Cinema 4D... if you'd like, you can see my little portafolio here :

Room335, thanks so much! I got them all. Only one question: unless I'm mistaken, video #3 is identical to video #1 -- it's the very first zSphere video. Is it possible you uploaded the wrong version of video #3?

I also have a question about the head modeling here. This model's eyes were relatively high on his face. But many people's eyes are almost precisely in the center of the skull. (Beginning artists often don't realize this and paint eyes too high.) I have trouble concocting a zSphere mesh that permits me to locate eyes, nose and mouth all low enough. I guess I'll try this video's approach and will try to tug the facial features down lower, but I worry that will stress the upper half of the mesh.

While I'm asking questions, one more: zBrush first wow'ed me with its "digital clay" feel. But it seems we spend an awful lot of time pushing vertices around, as in other 3D programs. Do people ever model realistic human heads from scratch out of "z-clay"?

Room335
08-22-07, 06:21 PM
As to 1 and 3 they are different. 1 starts with a z-sphere and 3 has the the reference plates , front and side view. So perhaps you somehow save one of the videos and accidentally changed the name.

As to your other questions, someone with more experience than I have will need to answer those. I do my sculpting in Blender.

You are right! One of the tutorials looks damaged.
Anyhow diferent players have diferent behaivor for such problem.
And some player can not handle that glich and the stop and other are ables to follow with the playback. BTW Damaged tuto has just one glitch in its full length.

Instead of download lots of players I sugest you to use the VLC media player that is able to handle the glitch, and wath is better it is FREE!!
You can get it from:

If I'm not mistaken these tuts are from zb 2? or at least the approach seems like the workflow for zb 2, with regard to edgeloops.

The head is pretty close to the ref image, have you got an image of the final model?
