View Full Version : Mummy
Hey guys, it's been a while since my last post, but I've been checking out the forum the last couple of weeks and saw some cool works and some of you guys really improving their skills. So I thought it wouldn't be right if I'd show up again without a piece that I put some effort in :D . Hope you'll enjoy this one and comments 'n questions are as always welcome :D .

That is very cool mummy.
Now my pointers if I may.
The atmospheric light stops at him, why not continue.
He looks like he is off the sand.
All in all it shows alot of time and thought. Put it off for awhile and come back to it. It is a good image that needs a little tweaking.
Keep on working, Nice Job :D
U-Jin, Very Evocative. I like the modeling and painting on the mummy. The "Set" is very well done and feels like a tomb. The volumetrics are sweet, but a bit strong. The front rays should continue past him a little. This will place him firmly in the center of the volumetrics.
As it stands now, he needs a shadow under him so he does not look like he's floating.
Other than those critiques, I really like this piece a lot. The lighting sets a dark and mysterious mood...Great Work!

Guys, thanks for the compliments and thanks for your critiques, they're also much appreciated.
Here are some close-ups and explanations.

As you can see from the zoom on the mummy, his feet are on the ground, in fact they're a bit sunk in the sand (sorry if it wasn't very visible in the smaller pic, just didn't want to send a giant pic where a foot will cover half ur screen :D :p )
As for the lightings, the rays dont flow across the screen, they shine on the door and so the shadow is behind him and for a large part on the wall 'couse he stands almost against it.
In the second close-up on the disintegrating cloth, you actually can see some rays touching the ground and as for others: weaker/weakend lightrays tempt to fade as they go further into the dark and the effect is strengtend if there is an another light (such as the one in the other chamber of the tomb) which kinda swallows up the weak rays.

Real lightrays along a rock wall.
But hey, like you said Elvetree. Maybe I should put it off for a while and get back to it later with a fresh point of view :D .
Maybe I don't see something yet, I'll get on with my next project and take another critical look at it later ;) .
I love the concept and the positioning in this scene the modeling and texturing are really great.
However if I may just do a little crit.... the Mummy looks as if he is in a different lighted setting, there is no sign of the warmer lighting as is in the rest of this scene, he looks a bit like as if a momo colour image was placed inside a full colour scene. Also there does not seem to be a shadow cast by the mummy. Now I know some may say that this is ok with supernatural images but I think that a couple of shadows cast by the mummy and a little more sympathetic colouring of the mummy would really emblaze this sceen into a great masterpiece.
I hope you do not mind the advice, I really like this scene
Well, it's a couple of days and one project past my last post on this topic. I took another look at the picture and as you guys adviced I tweaked with the lighting a bit, but it's getting kinda late here so I'm not sure if it's better.
:: stronger shadows and softer & longer lightrays.
Hope I don't bother you by bringing up my old topic again :) .
Let me know if it's better than the first version or what's still wrong with it... ...and now I'm gonna get some shuteye :D . http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200407/user_image-1090198299voy.jpg

You touch something hard to obtain with ZB :)
"The Atmospheric effects"
Just take a look at this:http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011428&p=
If it can help you :)
Why don't try fog and depht field rendering?
Sure it was so realistic using them :)
Nice piece of work :)
Thanx,
Le Discot I've seen this piece when I checked out your gallery, I like your work :)
