View Full Version : Is this possible?

I want to create a piece of stone-wall in Amapi (just contours with a window hole), and save this as a OBJ file. Then import the OBJ file of the wall-piece in Z-Brush to paint on the stones (cartoon-like)... Is this possible?

When yes; I’ve got a few questions to ask:
a) How do you import the OBJ file in Z-Brush?
b) When I paint on the stones, I want to have a very detailed surface (cause in the end I want to export the file to Bryce5 and create the rest of the illustration in there...) and do not want to end up with jagged edges; so how do I get a higher polycount in Z-Brush?

Earlier on I tried to create a rough looking stone in Z-Brush, saved it as a OBJ file and imported this in Bryce5, but it was’nt smooth enough...(Tried smoothing the mesh in Bryce but that did’nt help).

Can anybody help me please (desperate  )
Thanks for any comment, Rob

To import the model you would select the Polymesh3D tool, then go to Tool>Inventory>Import. This cannot be done with the demo, however.

Use TextureMaster (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=005112) to do your texturing. You can actually model some rocks to use for this. Drop the wall to the canvas, draw your rocks onto it, and then use the Pick Shaded button to transfer your rocks to the texture complete with shadows caused by the shape of the rocks.

Before you texture the model, however, I would recommend taking it into Bryce to see if it is smooth enough for you. If not, then use ZBrush's Tool>Modifiers>Deformations>Divide followed by Smooth to increase the polygon count. Export the model and test it again. Remember also that good texturing can often hide polygon edges.

hi, Rob! i have no experience with both amapi and bryce, but i think what you want to do is possible:

:b4: to import .obj tools into zbrush you have to activate the starshaped Polymesh3d-tool - its inventory settings will allow you to do imports - and exports.

:b4: to increase the polygoncount go to tool>deformations and press divide (its at the bottom of the palette). you might want to activate preferences>quick 3d edit + pf to see the polyframes

:b4: use TextureMaster for texturing and save the tool with texture

i hope this does the trick!

- juandel :)

- argh! took me to long :) aurick is speedy :)
