View Full Version : My first drawing
I have Photoshop 5.5 and paintshop 7.2 but can't do a darn thing with them.
Maybe if I took the time to read some tutorials . . . .
Anyway, I just got zbrush and did this:
image2girl.psd (http://www.mypagesonline.com/mypages/drawings/image2girl.psd)
I also used micrografx to make the face and feet (or foot as it were). But first, I had to fix where I went off the page.
image2.psd (http://www.mypagesonline.com/mypages/drawings/image2girl.psd)
This really is my first drawing ever.
Most of the graphics I do are edited (heavily in some cases) real pictures.
Maybe one day (could be tomorrow) I'll look back and decide this sux. I hope I get that good.

Pretty good --nice feel to it..especially good for a first drawing ..
I agree with Robo. And it's great that you're sharing this -- it's not always easy to post one's early work.
By the way, if you would like to have images display in the forum, you need to convert them to .jpg files. You can do this in Photoshop by going to File>Save for Web. There you can adjust its quality (on a scale of 0 to 100) before saving it as the jpg file. For ZBCentral posts, you need to adjust the quality to a point where the image size (shown in the lower left of the screen) is under 200K. Once that's done, you can use the "upload image" button here in the forum when you create your message.
Thanks for the comments.
Um, I don't even use my photoshop. I used micrografxs to edit the exported psd, and saved it as both so I could kick it back in zbrush and play with backgrounds. When I opened the jpg that I saved to the highest quality, the shading on the face didn't look right, and some edges are jagged.
See?

btw, does anyone know how to set photoshop to undo more than one time? Thats prolly why I don't use it, I can't experment without the ability to go back a few steps.
I have zbrush set to 50, plus I save a lot. I might want to start out playing with one of my saved "looks cool" stuff one day. Thats how I came up with this drawing.
Photoshop has only 1 undo. However, versions 5 and above have a History palette. Look for that to delete previous actions...

Photoshop also has the "step forward" and "step backward" options in the Edit menu. These give you multiple undo and redo. (I think, off the top of my head, that step backward's shortcut is Ctrl-Shift-Z).
Regarding the discoloration and the edge effects when you go to a jpg, that's because .jpg is a compression technology meant to make pictures more download friendly. Any time you reduce file size, you do so at the expense of quality. Photoshop's method is one of the best that I have seen, though. It gives you excellent control over the process, so that you can instantly see the compressed version before saving, and decide where you've reached a point of trading off too much quality in favor of a smaller file. Believe me; it's worth taking the time to learn!

Hi
If you are like using undo it is worth investigating Photoshop a bit more. As not only can you undo but in the preferences you can set the undo to be non linear. Also you can use the history brush to paint onto a current view a small piece from a past view.

I love the history brush!!
