hi John and congratulations! :D
i’m not sure if i get you right: you want to download alphas as for instance provided by the doc? (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=001968) if so: just download the file, unzip it and convert the .jpg’s into .psd or .bmp files with any app that can do it and that you have at hand. i further suggest that you create a new folder within the z-brush folder named something like customized-aplhas or the like and save the .psd’s or .bmp’s there, so to have them at hand when importing and ready for any future backups. in z-brush open the alpha-window and look for the "import"-button, click it, voila, the alpha is ready for use. i hope that’s what you meant and it helps!

The other thing to mention would be that ANYTHING is an Alpha, as long as it is a Black-and-white, or Greyscale image, (and textures can be converted to Alphas in the Texture Palette)... :)
