Well I have been hoping to try the cubing technique so here is my experiment with it. I first drew a shape with the ordinary paint brush, fast shader and white colour. Then I played with the shape using the hook brush to pull up certain spots. Then I grabbed it and made an alpha from it. I then made the 3D cubed object. I put the tool on a really large canvas (as large as I could without stopping my computer altogether) and used the reflection gel shader material with black colour. I moved it around so that mostly only the edges showed up. I then used the glow brush with turquoise colour, a square alpha to make most of the windows, and put a few in with the reflection gel shader as well. Added the water and lighted it with a turquoise backlight and 3 other white lights. Rendered it without shadows. I had to take it into photoshop to convert to jpg and while I was there I realized I didn't like the water so I smoothed it out and it was way too big so I cropped it, and used a photoshop lighting filter to soften the sides where it was cropped off.

Looks like the lights of the big city to me!
Really great job and great walk through of your method. :tu:

Thank you both for your comments. It was fun doing this project. Now I wonder what else can be done with this cubic skinning thing. Hmmmm.
There's no doubt about it.Cubic skinning is fun and I think produces some interesting results-your's is just more proof.Hope you don't mind if I stick my cubic skinner in here http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1046086632ikm.jpg
ok just one more than I'll quit I promise.

Fun ain't they? :tu: :) :tu:
Perhaps we should start a new art movement - we could call it Cubizm! :D

both awesome. Given me some ideas. Now I have to go figure out something in 155B besides cubic mapping. <g> :} Jim

If you brought these cubic models into an app that does true isometric renders - could you not have a quick way of building up the effect of 3d pixel pix?
I couldn't 'cos I'm rubbish with cubic skinning - but it was a general question to those that do.
Oh and how you do. :tu:
By the way what is ZBrush's default perspective? I can never remember.
Wow these images look so cool! :tu: How do you do that? Is there a zscript on this or tutorial mabye?
Hey Munch-If I can remember I'll try and save one of these cubic skinner scripts next time-probably tomorrow morning-I'm off to dreamland(cubic dreamland that is)Boozie-I've taken some of these models into TSpace5.1 and rendered them with some "Dark
Tree"(Simbiont) textures and there is definitely something to what you are saying.

rhom, look foward to seeing how these initial experiments turn out. Do post a new posting when and if you do.
Thanks! that would be great. I'd love to learn how to do this cubing stuff in zbrush.
Hey munch I just tried to make a Zscript for you showing cubic skinning but for whatever reason it is just not working-the picture in the Zscript is not centerd in on the monitor-the lines do not show-the colors do not orient properly-some of the simple native Zbrush objects are there-some aren't-some orient properly some don't-in short it is a mess-don't know what is wrong-maybe someone else with more knowledge can advise
on what the problem is.Is there something with cubic skinning and low poly objects that causes problems with Zscripting(though
I can't believe that after watching some of KenB's low poly modeling scripts)
