I took advantage of the aplha skinning to create the progression in this image.
A skull model (created in ZB) was placed against another surface, and the MRGBZ tool was used to capture the alpha.
From there, various 3D objects were made using the skinning feature. For each one, the mesh resolution and depth was increased, while the mesh smoothness was decreased (this made it sharper)

This technique has some cool uses for forming or melting effects with objects or text.

I haven't tried this, but a sequence of images can be created and made into an animation using 2D morphing effects. I'm sure you guys can come up with even more uses for this feature.
