I tried a search on "Sdns" but found nothing on this anomaly. Maybe it's just my copy of ZBrush (I had the demo installed before I installed 1.55b).

under Tools/modifiers/inventory/sdns

The short help identifies this slider as determining "spheres density".

The long help identifies this slider as determining "skin density".

Why the differences in identifications? Does this function change depending on context?

What does the "sdns slider" actually do and under what circumstances does it become active?

Thanks.

The Sdns slider only comes into play when a Unified skin is being created. What it does is specify how many linking spheres will be created for skinning purposes between each main ZSphere. Since the Unified skin conforms to the surface of ZSpheres AND linking spheres, a higher value here will result in a smoother transition from one ZSphere to the next.

In the example above, two skins have been created from the same ZSphere model (shown at top). The first skin (middle object) was done with an Sdns setting of 100. The bottom one was done with a setting of 1. No other changes were made in the Inventory settings before skinning.

Thanks A, I see what sdns does now (though I seem to remember the density of the linking spheres being visually adjustable in some earlier ZB iteration... Could just be me.)

The link sphere density can still be visually adjusted. Use Tool ::Modifiers ::Density. :)

Exactly! Thanks M. (and A.)

The Sphere Density vs Skin Density HELP info still seems odd, though I see now how each is an aspect of making a unified skin from ZSpheres.
