:) hello! thank you for your very kindly comments on my precedent post!2-3 questions about render, i try to answer: i nearly always do the render in zbrush, and before, i "finish" the modelling, if it's an "alien" model (amapi or rhino);in chess, farmer is all render in z, just 3 lights, one red; the shadow is hand painted after; i use the render process in zbrush as a way to have usually what i wish in 2 or3 renders: here, in the devil's pict, you see i take the head in 3 successive renders; it's possible because it's so fast, and it's in despite of that, so bright; the only time i do renders outside is when i wish very intricated and long shadows; but the next pict, eggs, is all render in z, very few shadows are hand painted after, and i was perfectly ok with the long and "limit" lightning...also, i talked with glen about these portraits: they are nearly always textured with a photo: it's curious, and fun, to see that a photo is totally "mastered" by the form;i mean, my daughter or my son can "go" on very older and differents human form...Friendly M. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200304/user_image-1049651017lkb.jpg http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200304/user_image-1049651074lht.jpg http:// www.pixolator.com/ubb/uploaded_files/user_image-1049651103mpg.jpg (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200304/user_image-1049651103mpg.jpg[/IMG])

just for fun, a last one, about the books of my childhood, where "white areas" on the earth maps, was the theater of starnge adventures... now white areas begins on Venus or mars, not pacific islands... http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200304/user_image-1049651590gds.jpg

I find it ironic that I post an image of a religious nature with a "good" theme behind it, and get attacked. However images of devils, Satan, etc. yield no such similar attacks or even comments. Interesting, telling, and a bit hypocritical if you ask me.

Equally as telling is that my images don't make it onto the image bar at the top, yet these images of devils do? Perhaps an explanation of that would be in order? I'm not saying it's a conspiracy or anything, but I'd love to hear the rationale behind it.

This is not directed at Marcel, or his work, more so it's directed at the people who had so much to say about _my_ piece that caused me so much personal discomfort.

Monkeyfarm:
I'm not finding any of your religious images to reference, so these comments are going to be extremely general and possibly way off base. That said...

I think the double-standard comes down to belief in the iconography. Most would view these demons and goblins and various occult figures as nothing more than bits of colorful folklore. If the artists behind those works publically worshipped Satan, you can bet the community would attack their submissions.

Religious art (in any medium) is rarely subtle, and nobody likes an agenda. Much as with political cartoons, the audience that agrees with your stance will always be receptive, and everyone else will want no part of it. Getting past that is a delicate tightrope act.

Again.. The non-reaction to Satan that you're seeing comes from wide acceptance of the idea that he's purely fictional, never once having any basis in reality. When you can say the same thing about "good" themed religious imagery, it's time to worry.

Embrace the controversy. It means we still care. =)

PS:
I did find this thread (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=010444), where the author of a Jesus portrait received nothing but compliments for their work. And, of course, Glen Southern's Ascention (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/user-gallery/1_Southern/020312__ascension.jpg) was met with standing ovations. So, I'd really have to see the posts you're talking about before I can comment on them intelligently. I don't suppose you've got a link or two handy?

Excellent technique! The portrait is ready for magazine or book covers. Nice lighting, very expressive face. The pitchforks do look more claylike than functional, but otherwise everything feels organic and hand-painted.

I'm blown away by the egg picture.

Hi Monkey
Don't panic, we don't attack your work !
The realisation was perfect !
Your subject was just sensitive or delicate to critic.
The Marcel's devil can't make confusion !
It's not a diverting of concept !
All are in the right place, horn, trident, goatee, shifty smile just miss the cloven and the hail hoof :D

Hi The Namek
Galerie of Marcel :D (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/user-gallery/getthumbs.shtml?1_Laverdet&linkall)

Hello Marcel

Go get em Monkey! :) Don't Fret...most of us don't make it into the top bar. It's not judged on content but artistic interest(ie how it was created) or being just plain cool. Marcel regularly gets into it with all sorts of subject matter. We haven't all been worshiping the devil!
PS It'd be interested to see your picture. I missed it fisrt time.

We cannot allow this to continue. Our stance concerning personal attacks and flaming is very clearly defined here (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000102).

If flaming continues, this thread will be closed.

effectively i'm surprised that what is in my mind a cartoon subject, the dispatching of threesomethings by a very minor and numbered little devil goes in a so sensitive place; of course, aurick, don't hesitate to delete the thread if any problem... and i absolutely don't undesrtand wy, but sorry if i offense anybody with something just funny...M.

Marcel;
Chin up my friend, Aurick's post was for my benefit only as I don't allow moderators
to e-mail me.

Aurick;
I don't suffer fools gladly. When somebody insults my religion they need to be told
in no uncertain terms what they did is wrong, why it is wrong, and how to correct
it. All of which I did in my post. Simply removing offensive material is not enough,
in this case the individual is still wondering what all the fuss is about.

I accept your removal of my post as I also included what could be termed
"personal attacks". Certainly the egotism displayed (which I won't recount here)
needed to be addressed. A little reality check would have been of benefit to this
individual's personal growth.

Obviously, I don't have the temperment for this list. I'll contact individuals privately.
Kindly delete this profile as I won't be needing it anymore.

Marcel, I am fascinated by your work. It is very distinctive and just plain fun to look at. I have question for you. You say you use 3 renders. Does this mean that you position the lights for one render, move them for the next, and the next to get the lighting you want? Then do you take those into another program and paste them together somehow? This is how it sounds to me, but I just wanted to get your view. Thanks for any assistance. :)

I'm not going to be attacking religion, but why is it always the centre of arguements, wars and so much bad taste when it's supposed to be based on good and all things wonderful??? I based my art degree on this very subject!

That would be a subject better suited for the Community Forum or for private correspondence. Let's try to keep the focus of the main forum on ZBrush itself. :)
