View Full Version : Material Pack Problem - anyone know how to get around this?

I have a problem that I just discovered with material pack. Last night I worked on a 3 layer project each layer had an object on it and each object had a different material. So far so good. I decided that I wanted more choice with materials so I opened Material Pack and wow did I get a surprise! When I changed the material on my active object in layer 3, I also got partial material change on the inactive object in layer 1. When I switched over to layer one to correct the problem, the material on all 3 layers switched on its own to the material used from the material pack. I tried seperating the layers but that didn't make any difference as I would restore the original material to the object in that layer and as soon as I switched to layer 3 the material for that object would apply itself to the objects in the other layers as well.

What is the problem here? I was careful to use a shader material originally that I don't normally use so when I selected one from the material pack it would replace one that didn't matter. This is really annoying. Finally to get any kind of picture done I had to keep the layers seperate and start with the background render it seperately and bake it, then do the same for each of the other layers. But of course doing it that way I couldn't get the overall effect I wanted.

Any insight or fix anyone can come up with would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hey, I just now accidentally found a solution! For each object that you want to use a material pack material for you must first start with a material from the standard zbrush material palate. It seems the problem is that you can't switch materials from within the material pack or it applies to all your objects.

I was going to delete this post since I found the answer myself, but I thought I would leave it here in case anyone else has experienced this and not found a solution. And as a tip for newbies.
