Here's my first model created with Zbrush. I exported the model and texture and rendered it in 3ds max.

I think Zbrush is a wonderful tool, though I'm still having a little trouble wrapping my brain around the interface.

excellent image and model of a pig... texture is perfect... you might want to add some ivory teeth...

Nice modelling, X, and a great first post...
You should try rendering in Z...I think you'll find it will do at least as good a job with the proper settings!

Nice model,if there is any fault in the picture it would be the hiar fibers on the pigs head.A little to thick.Looks almost like needles.

Hello xenon, excellent first posting. As you've demonstrated, ZBrush is a superb modeling app whether rendered in Z or a different application - note Ken B's work. As far as the interface, I find the sliding side panels to be reminiscent of Max. If you're proficient in Max you'll have no trouble adjusting to Z.

I look forward to seeing more of your work. :tu:

Beautiful first posting, Xenon! As obvious as it is that you're a professional with experience, I would like to know what your early impressions are of Zbrush as a modeler, texturer, etc. :tu:

Thanks for the kind words and comments. Looking over this forum, I've seen a combination of positive enthusiasm and solid information. Kind of a rarity these days, eh? (Glad to know there's some fellow Spumco fans out there, too.) Some of the work I've seen done with Zbrush has been truly awe inspiring, and left me scratching my head wondering "how'd they do that?" There's something really unique and quirky about using Zbrush, like I'm being allowed to use the secret workshop tools of an old gnome.
Re: my opinion of Zbrush as a "pro" tool: For doing organic character models, so far so good. My goal with "piggy" is to create a fully animatable character, and I'm trying to use Zbrush for much of it (model, texture, and facial morph targets). If I can do all that with Zbrush, I'll be a happy camper indeed. Though I've only scratched the surface of Zbrush, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that building certain objects like, say, a human hand, a realistic car, or a low poly model for a game might be difficult to do solely in Zbrush. But I think in conjunction with other programs out there, this is an extremely useful tool.
