View Full Version : Predator
The working title was "dino-boy", but that seemed a bit dopey. I'm not sure I like this title either. But, what's in a name? Hope you like the image.

Holy Kanolie, is that all from one sphere? man, this is an awesome pic. did you model him from the one's in the movie "Dinosaur"? because it's an exact copy. i love the teeth sticking out and the totally cool eye. i can't believe how great this picture is. thanks for sharing it with us...

WOW.
That is fantastic Ken!
This is great. It reminds me of a desert "horned toad". The leathery, wrinkly skin on the neck is especially well done. Realistic looking? you bet Jurassic Park it is!

wow did you really model that head
itīs fantastic...great work
Nicely done, not only the modelling but the foliage and the nice dappled lighting. There is also a clarity to this image that makes it so lifelike! :tu: :tu: :tu:
As always, thank you for your comments.
The head was modeled from a Z-Sphere, and I even recorded the process in a script, but when played back, inexplicably, part way through the model's orientations becomes off, and thus the rest of the process is trashed. If any of you out there who are adept at disecting scripts want to look at it to fix, I'd be happy to post it. (it's easy to see the problem as the model turns upside down)
With each image, I discover some powerful feature of Zbrush. The discovery in this one was using a custom alpha converted to a stencil to wrap on the model. That's how I got some of the scales to conform on the neck. Over that, there's hand tooling to tie areas together and hide any repeating patterns
A custom alpha:

Cool use of the stencil tool.
As far as your ZScript is concerned it's best to record without doing any zooming, because there's currently a bug in recording ZScripts while zooming into a portion of the document. Maybe that's what happened.
DINO-MITE! You've really outdone yourself with this one, Ken. Truly terrific. A very innovative use of the stencil, too -- good to see someone putting that feature through its paces.
Regarding the ZScript, I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can possibly fix it. Don't get your hopes up too high with that one, though. In fact, here's a question right off the bat: Did you ever scroll during the creation of the scene? (spacebar-drag) If so, then I don't think that there IS a way to fix the script. When a script records, it tracks the coordinates for where you click on the screen and drag to. Whatever is below those coordinates, it acts upon. As a result, if the contents of the canvas somehow move without the script being aware of it, playback gets thrown off. And unfortunately, the recording does not track spacebar-scrolling. It does track horizontal scrolling using the Zoom palette. But not vertical scrolling, even that way.
The bottom line is that if you used spacebar-scrolling even once during your image creation, it will be all but impossible to fix the script. :( From the level of detail in the scene, I'm going to be very surprised if you created it at any size small enough to fit on the screen without ever scrolling!
Once again, great pic! Major kudos!
I don't recall, but I probably did scroll or zoom during the modeling as I usually do that without thinking. Oh Well. Perhaps the next one I'll get right.

On the off chance that it's somthing else, here's the script file for any who dare to enter. Thanks for your time.
'Morning Ken B . . . :)
What a great creation you've posted this morning, I'm really impressed! ;)
It almost appears to be a Photo. I like your use of the Stencil tool for adding the global texturing. Thanks for the tricks & tips & you have a good one . . . Mark.
LOVE the scaling on his neck.
Particularly appreciate the head and it's boney horns. COOL!
Nice depth with the foliage too.

Hello Ken B
Most excellent nice use of shadowing on the leaves. This is what would be most fearful, walking through a jungle knowing a creature such as this could be lurking, patiently waiting in the shadows :)

Fantastic ! You are to be congratulated on a job very well exectuted. As Kathy says let us see some more of your work !!
