Less sss transparent effect and perhaps less reflective eyes. Its hard to tell with the lightin and the lack of eye textures yet. What's his bottom half going to look like? Goat or human like, or something stranger?

On first glance i thought this may be one of those busts that only looks good becuase of nice SSS and rendering. But by looking longer I realized that this is really a nice sculpt, also a well crafted material.
The fact that you're going beyond the head is great too, the body parts are looking really good man, keep us posted.

Aumakua (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/member.php?u=14628) :Here the difuse, paint whith zapplink....
difuse_02b.jpg
The materials are all Vraymtl whith a texture like this one in the difuse, reflect, refract and translucent map and whith a bump map made in ZB whith multidisplacementexpt
The lighting is a very basic tree point lighting ,the key and fill are vraylight and the back light is a simple spot(In that case the spot work very well for me...)I choose to not use that much of Indirect Illumination to keep more contrast.....
I will work on the body next week-end,thanks again for your comments

:o huh
did I miss something...(don't know much about MAX)
so you had the head as a seprate mesh..the horns also seprate mesh
each has its owen disp map..and it render with no seam ?
If it was just the horns I would understand but I dont see the gemetry on the head where the horns get inbeded in it...
WOW! Wonderful details and proportions!!!
I have a question. Do you use pinching when sculpting in zbrush? If not, how do you create very sharp wrinkles without using pinching...
I sculpted a face with a lot of wrinkles but I think I used too much pinch, I can't get the same result in max...

wow, very very cool model. I was wondering though, you say you make the different parts of the body seperately then combine them...how do you make sure that the connecting edges will match up when you go to combine them? Great work though. Trying to get a summer 2007 internship myself somewhere, hopefully I may get accepted into the American Ubisoft offices...love all you Ubisoft guys work. - Ian
your model looks very decent...a lot of details..COOL:)
MR.BAHU
12-16-06, 08:03 AM
Hy guys,a few answers....
About the separate mesh, the body and head are seperate to ad more details in ZB,after in max I import the iteration 4 of both mesh and I weld those 2 in 3dsmax....yeah there is a lot of vertex to weld but whith the weld threshold you can easely do this in one operation...Both mesh fit almost perfectly cause I had already snapvertexised(!!!)those two before(the low base, not the iteration 4...)...then I applied a displacement map to reach the level of details of the iteration 6 ...The UV all fit in the same texture,I composite the 2 displacement from Z brush in photoshop and I correct the seems problems if there is any....
Strob:No pinch there,Im not a big fan of how pinch react, but thats a personnal opinon...For micro details I just go to higher subdivision levels and ad them whith standart tools....
X14halo:Montreal is a very frendly town....we are like 1200 people at Ubi Montreal and they plan to go up to something like 1600...so if you have a good portfolio their is place for you for sure,as long as your are not afraid of real winter....
Lil'sister:Thanks men....ROCK!!!! Lets make a deal,I finish this guy and you finish Thor....we got a deal?

This is a phenominal sculpt!!!
One thing that I would suggest is varying your materials in places to move further away from the Statuette look and closer to a living, breathing creature wearing real cloths and real armor. I guess the uniform specular everywhere does the the whole wax figure thing for me, but maybe you just haven't gotten to changing that yet. But damn....that's a hot sculpt!
Hello Bahu and thx for your great work.
you wrote that you´ve rendered your image with vray in 3dsmax.
Would you like to share your settings with us ?
I am talking about the lightsetup and the material setup you used for.

Awsome desgin work, and godlike sculpting...:D The horns are particularly well done. The wrinkles around the nose and eyes are inspirational. I'll be learning a lot from this model.

Awesome work man!! Really love all the details and the texturing... simply amazing stuff!!!
Once question though - the separate mesh thing that u did - could u clarify a bit more please? You had the horns, head and body as separate meshes in zb then imported 4th subdiv back and welded? Does that mean that the final is rendered as one continuous mesh with one huge texture? Also wut did u do with the UVs? Are they all on the (1,1) co-ordinate space? or as a separate UV groups?
It would be really helpful if u could maybe show ur UV layout...
Just really curious about the horns especially and the technique - cuz I am doing something similar on a dragon character.
Thanks alot!
Keep up the good work!

Hi Bahu, you got a huge thread here, so I am sorry if my question has ben asked already.
I saw your diffuse-texture-less render, but it was very good-looking since all the render-setup was done proper.
Is that the way you do, that you first create the light-setup, and do all the materials-setting, SSS and so on?
Also, thank you for showing how the diffuse-map looks like. What I cant understand, is the step between the flat diffuse-map and the alive-looking final render.
Is it the render-setup only, or do you also have some kind of a shading network?
I would be glad for that information.

Probably trying to explain why each piece of "his" art has a totally different look and skill level.
I'd be surprised if that fact didn't send a red flag to anyone on that forum anyway.

I'm rusty on the language, heck I was never that good. However, he does ignore any requests for the wireframe, he does claim they were done in Zbrush, he does accept all accolades for his great sss renderings and so on. Now to be fair I may have misinterpereted some of this, I did read it several times and the other posters as well, but stopped with a headache. One of the moderators keeps giving him props, so I'm not sure that will be the way to shut him down. Back tracking his ISP would be better. As they will cause his parents some distress - hopefully.
Lil'sister

Anyways he's 13 so he's not going to look for a job and when someone will ask him to create something the result will speak for itself!
nxskynet, laugh it up little buddy! the joke is on you and the finger is probably something you copy pasted from someone else! you should spend more time reading books on art and practice instead of posting to get attention (I hope you understand what I mean your english doesn't seem very good).

Amazing modelling and shading. congratulations.
I've read in some of the first pages of this thread that there're some of you working in ubisoft Montreal and you don't know each other  It's quite amazing but I know there're a lot of people working there so maybe it's normal...
Anyway, great work.

Though I registered only a few days ago I've been following the artwork in this gallery for quite a long time. For me this work here is still some of the best creature designs with a quite photorealistic rendering. I really love that piece. I'd be happy to see some more of your work, Mr. Bahu. Keep it up :tu: !
Cheers!
Nice character, and render to.
