View Full Version : Subdividing the mesh...............?????

Okay finally got around to subdividing the mesh. On the model below I subdivided the front legs by way of masking.......I didn't actually have to, but did it anyway, however when I went to use the divide the next time on the head no subdividing happened. Why?

The mark on the front leg was the height of the subdivision.......it also went forward around the lower front of the dog....and wandered off underneath the dog back towards the tail.

The model was sculpted from one sphere.....I got a little sidetracked from my original purpose.

I would love a sphere....as would anybody....that could be modelled into a complete human...toes and all.

Also......a change in appearance of the edit tool when using different modelling functions......I would also like 10 million dollars.

this z-doggy is absolutely fantastico, Ed! i dont know what could be the reason that the head could not be subdivided... the only reason that i can think of is that you had used the edit/size mode to enlarge the head (a procedure after which i fail to divide - but the head you did does not look at all like you have done so). so i dunno. mayhaps it helps to try optimize and give it another try with subdividing afterwards? guesses and blahblah.

a wonderful doggy it is!

Hi ed :)
If ZBrush refuses to further subdivide a mesh it is likely because the mesh has too many polygons, try optimizing the (unmasked) mesh once in order to reduce the poly-count and then mask an area and apply subdivide.

:b3: When applied to a high poly-count mesh, the optimize function will reduce the number of polygons by 75% with minimal impact on the overall shape of the object.

Ed your pup is coming out great!! As the proud mom of 7..... I would love to adopt this little guy as # 8! :) < ahhhh what a breeze he will be , No clean up!>
You have no idea how many hours I spent attempting to model one, it wouldn't even come close to this!
