After settling in orbit the Monkey opened his instructions. "check life support system, check navigation computer, check satellite link"
His human co pilot opened his instructions, "don't forget to feed the monkey"

A very good one. great monkey expression and funny . Teeth are wonderful. But maybe the mouth/lips need a little more work. Good use of the fiber brush. :tu:
one step for man one step for man kind.
or was that one step for Monkey one step for Monkey kind lol funny pic :tu:
Very cute. I agree with Codexus about the mouth/lips. Otherwise, the head is remarkable!
Excellent work, great face, clothing and background your doing well.

great job on the skin and on the suit itself....has that great raincoat plastic feel to it....but I guess Ham peed his britches and needed a plastic jumper when he was shot into space..I know I would have....keep us posted..... :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Very nice!!! :tu:  :tu:
I also think you should stick with this...The work can be great if you give it the time and attention it deserves, and rushing things, although natural, can cause the loss of a fine piece, through the production of an 'okay' one... ;)
The eyes are very expressive, and with that as a start, you're rockin'!

YES SIR>> you did awesome job on this monkey..
ok its been a while but I have finally finished him i think, I took in your suggestions esp the suggestions about the lips, it made so much of a difference and gave him more character. I also gave the background a total overhaul, I used the earth pic that someone posted a thread about(A big thankyou, but I've forgotten who posted it) and i did a lot of basic fiddling with details. some more 121 would super fantabulous http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1015477133hek.jpg

nicely done hitch ... very cool image..the updated version is much better in detail and lighting..
All of the extra details that were added in the second version are one giant leap forward for monkeykind. ;) I really like the texture that you added to the space suit. And those lips are a great improvement. :tu:
One trick that you may find helps you with the fiber brush in future projects is to bake the layer before adding the hair (which means that you want to have the lighting and everything else pretty well settled on with the hair as one of the last steps). Then do the hair with the Flat Color material. This will give nice, fine hairs without any strange material effects.

Great! I'm glad to see that the little monkey has now some very nice lips. The other chnages are also a lot of improvements. This image has just gone from good to great! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Ans since you want some 121 I'll say that maybe the top the head could use more lighting it's a bit dark.
You have made some good additions, great work for a newcomber.

Nice work. The improvements are moving this along in the right direction. The lighting is especially good, but I agree with what someone said above, it's a bit dark in some places. Sometimes what I do is use a point light with a small radius to fill in some "problem" dark areas.
Also, take a look at Southern's cloth tutorial http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=004106 and give a try making the flag using that technique. I think that would make the image especially spectactular.
On a side note, when I was a kid I had a children's book about Ham, so it holds some fond memories for me.

hey....great subtle improvements for sure....the tubing and the uniform look pretty convincing to me....the alpha brush with the flag bled over a bit onto the arm...maybe paint the flag on another layer if you want to use the alpha flag...would still give that nice just out of focus blur....keep us posted on what you do next with good ole Ham.....Question...is that where they get the name Ham Radio? :tu: :tu: :tu:

I think the first pic has more character. The new one is too cute. You should be careful about having your artisic instincts swayed by others. This is not supposed to be a realistic monkey is it.
You might as well complain that cartoon characters don't have enough fingers. Who says lips must look a particular way? Not picasso that's for sure. Comments on technique can be useful but comments on modifications to art should be taken with a grain of salt.
The first pic looks like an ardman animation, the second pic looks like michael jackson. Even the smooth texture works better on the first one. Quite often, less is more.
The first pic is instantly funny. Especially with the huge flag. The second pic falls flat on its face in comparison.
That's my 2 cents worth.
Thank y'all for all your suggestions and critques, Foud out who I had to thank most WINGED ONE, was the one who found the maps, and he was ever so humble about it, he didn't ven say it was he who foud them. Thanks also thelonious for the different opinon. I didn't intend to make the image realistic, I am light years away from having the skill to create realism.
