View Full Version : Aurick's Script Selector (Mac Version Added)
http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010061420jaw.jpg
Well folks, blame it on Kathy and DJ!
To help out, I've created a new Script utility that puts a bunch of cool stuff at your fingertips when you start ZBrush. When installed, it starts ZBrush with a menu at the bottom of the screen that contains links to all the currently available utilities that are in Pixologic's script library. This includes the TextureMaster, all of Digit's Widgets, and a bunch of cool things by Davey.
In addition, I've thrown in a variation of Southern's startup script.
You can download the file here:
PC Version -- Click to Download (http://www.pixologic.com/users/matthew/PCScriptSelector.zip) (1.22MB)
Mac Version -- Click to Download (http://www.pixologic.com/users/matthew/MacScriptSelector.zip) (1.22MB)
The reason it's such a large download is that it includes all of the scripts, including the files that are necessary to run them (the TextureMaster being the main culprit).
Full instructions are included in a readme when you unzip the file. Believe me, it's pathetically easy to set up. :)
I hope that some of you find it useful!
Aurick this IS WAY beyond the call of duty!

I am going to download this puppy RIGHT NOW!

zooooooooper, Matthew! :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:....
but: argh! i encountered the following trouble: thats all that shows up after following your installation instructions*: http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1010071665xgh.jpg after showing the yellow/red alertsign (now partially covered by the "buttons") for a few seconds.
* the defaultscript.txt did not install itself automatically. (i found out because the usual default scripts loaded). so i renamed the original one and placed yours into the zbrush123 folder. i tried all: copying your zscriptsfolder only into zbrush123 folder - copying the whole unstuffed scriptselector folder into zbrush123 folder - renaming the zbrush123 folder into zbrush123b ... the result stays the same: some half visible buttons at the very left end of the script-window. do you think that something got corrupted during download?
tia for any advice

Aurick,
Wow, wow, and even more wow. This is great! Thanks!
Tony
100% Awsome script, Aurick! :)
Great idea!
Wow. I'm completely overwhelmed. I just got up after an all-too-brief winter's nap, to see this outpouring of responce. I'm really glad that this little dohickie is going to be so helpful.
Juandel, the problem that you are encountering is due to my lack of knowledge concerning MacIntosh systems. The Script Selector will not work on a Mac -- for a short time longer. Pixolator has very kindly taken the time to modify things to work on a Mac, and I just need to update the Readme file, etc. So once I've had a chance to actually get moving here, I'll get everything in order and the Mac version uploaded. (Maybe I should finally acquire that taste for coffee -- at 6'4", I don't think I need to worry anymore about it stunting my growth. ) So bear with me for another hour or two.
Thank you again, everyone! Glad I could help.
wow.. I had seen the other thread about making a default script. I didn't understand the jargon at the time. I figured I would have to go back to it when I was more awake to work it out cause it sounded cool.
This.. this is awesome and installed perfectly even though I'm on my first coffee and not awake. Thanks so much!!

edit: OMG, here it is!!! the macversion! :D made me spill the beer!
Holy cow-this is almost a religical experience-it's like being one with ZBrush.Way to cool.Talk about speeding things up. :D
Great stuff Aurick !! (throw it up on the 3D Commune) This works well!
Upham :)
Looks like the Mac version is still creating a few fits, but they should be ironed out soon. I've just learned that the Mac version doesn't have a ZScripts folder, which would of course confuse things a bit. LOL
If anyone is on a Mac and having trouble, I think that taking everything out of my ZScripts folder that's created by the download and putting it all in the ZBrush root folder should do the trick. If this works, please let me know and I'll update the readme. Sorry to make life confusing for you Mac people!
Aurick I've got a template for the "skins".
How did you determine the size of your original and how it placed on the screen?
I'm not quite sure where the location and size parameters are in the script:
Here?
[PenMove,-11,-12][Image,ScriptSelectorBkg.psd,1]
[PenMove,-495-65+106-50,9]
I sure could use your wisdom on this considering it's YOUR creation. :D
The location of the skin on the screen is determined by that very first PenMove command:
[PenMove,-11,-12]
It places the upper left corner of the skin 11 pixels to the left and 12 pixels up from the default starting position for ZScript text. If you've built the skin around the current buttons, then a minor modification to that line should position everything correctly.
If you need to move the buttons rather than the image, then the second PenMove comes into play. Adjusting the last two numbers (-50,9) will let you move the TextureMaster button around. All other buttons will shift in relation to it. Positioning buttons is a little bit of trial and error to get it placed just right.
I'd recommend just making yours 515x122 and using mine as a background layer in Photoshop to guide your positioning. When the new one is in the right position to match the button layout, delete the guide layer and save your image. That would make distribution a lot easier, since all someone would have to do is replace the current ScriptSelectorBkg.psd file with the new one, and the rest will follow.
Of course, the alternative is to also distribute the adjusted DefaultZScript.txt along with the skin, so that they form a set. That option allows you to put as much space around the buttons as you want.
As for how I determined the size when I created it, well I'm almost embarassed to say. I built the script without any background image at all, then took a screen capture of it in ZBrush. I brought the capture into Photoshop, cropped it, and used it as a guide layer for creating my image to fit.
Okay. The Macintosh problem has been ironed out and tested by Juandel. With his seal of approval backing me up, here's what to do if you are on a Mac and have already downloaded the Mac version:
Simply copy all of the contents of the ZScript folder that came with the Zip file to your ZBrush123b root folder.
If you have not yet downloaded the script, I have updated the version on the server to correctly reflect the way that the Mac does things.
I'm just thrilled to death that so many people are finding this little number useful. I'll be sure to keep it updated as additional utility scripts come available, and may even be able to work a bit more functionality into it. (I'm thinking as I type this of a button to switch the canvas between Landscape and Portrait layouts.)
Also, watch for the new skins as Kathy and I come up with a few. It looks like they will have a standardized format, so it will be really easy to switch to a new one.
Above all else, though -- HAVE FUN! :)
