WOW! I love game art, and this fantastic work. Overall excellent design, not to wild about the face, but the body is stunning. REally love the leather clothing, not often done. I really like the unreal 3 lighting too. Very impressive engine. Is it Minitor or Minotor though?
I hope this makes top row, its nice to see a full character, especially game ones, really well done.

thanks guys! The design is actually not my own. It was designed by Anthony Fransisco.
Wonball.. I have no idea the spelling haha. Its actualy name is mineros. Its just based off of a minotaur design.. i think minotaur is the right spelling.. who knows!! and the unreal engine has amazing lighting. Thats my favorite aspect of it.
I'll try to get some wireframes up soon!

How come he has a line around his hands? Its like a worm burrowed in part of it, or like your were going to add some fabric to the hand areas that you forgot. Its not a huge deal, but it did kind of confuse me. I really can't wait to see how many polys this is!

Looks great! :tu:
Did you do all the poly work or just the hires stuff and someone else do the lores? How long did it take from start to finish? Just curious.
Btw, it kicks mucho butt. I too would like to see a wire and know how many polys (both z'd and non z'd).
Wanting and waiting to see more!

thanks all!
Kyphur, i did it all.. both high res, low res, texture, lighting, rendering.. it took a little over a month i believe to work on. i did this about a year ago so i dont really remember fully..
i'll try to get some wires up.. i'm not 100% sure i still have the low res wire.. but i'll check.. i def have the zbrush file..
womball, the lines around the hand are there to show a separation between the really hard skin and softer skin of the fingers.. really a design choice.. whether it works or not i guess is up to the viewers :)
i'll have some more info for you all later! thanks again for the compliments!

Dude, it definantly rocks and I'm impressed. If you have more to share I'm more than willing to look. ;)

Man, You're work is amazing! The minotaur has a unique style and I love the Unreal renders. :tu: I'd love to tool around with the unreal engine and get an idea what its capable of. :)

Ok, here is the wire file.. i dont have a maya file with all the maps on the low res.. and unreal doesn't let you show the wire on top of the mesh.. at least that i know of! so the low res is on the left.. and the zbrush mesh is on the right. the total polys of the low res are about 17k.. it was lowered very quickly to show proof of concept.. so its not really optimized well or lowered well.. i really did the lowering with the reduction tools in xsi.. so i can't say this is a great animatable mesh.. anyway, here it is!

 Very good job mister diamant... :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Just a remark, personally i think that it lack some wrinkles on the forehead
and on the lower lip.
On the LowRes version, on the top of the head, and on his big neck there
could be some "alpha" hairs.

Hey man, love the wires.
One more favor to ask of ya. Can you release the concept work for him? That would rock if you could.
Diamant
10-19-06, 11:40 AM
kyphur- i'll try to get the concept up tonight for you!
Kin_tan_tee- the forehead is actually a hard surface.. so not too many wrinkles would occur up there.. design decision i guess. as far as the lower lip.. i've gotten other comments on that. the thing is, there is the same detail there but the upper lip actually covers the lower lip.. when he opens his mouth you can see the detail there.. its just hidden in the base view..
there is supposed to be alpha hair all over him. I just never got around to making it :) it was a really quick prototype and the hair was a little difficult to figure out sorting order in unreal. probably just my lack of knowledge on the engine.. oh well :)
thanks again for all the comments!!

Shoot! I was 47 minutes too late to see your pic. It was on the top row and the thumbnail's still there. (in case you need to remove it too)
It still looks good though.
Just curious, but what game is this from?

I saw your minitor when it was originaly posted. I just wanted to say that its been one of the best stylistic pieces showcased here in my viewing of this forum for the past 2 years (nearly). The mix between over-exageration in the musculature and an acute attention to detail reminds me of the comic style artwork such as the works of McFarlane. This was not said to mean there is any real direct compairison of your model to something he has done. This piece is truely one of a kind. Obviously the only drawback is that the model is being used for a consumer level product that is yet to be released and to my knowledge hasnt even been anounced to be released at any specified date as of yet. It would be nice to see more creatures you have used Z-brush to create that arent attached to such projects. I do realize time constraints for professionals almost sometimes limit their own free time to an absolute 0, but your work definatly would not fall on blind eyes if you decided to do something exclusivly for the Z-community.

Thats too bad about having to take the pics down, But I suppose most of the peps here have already seen them and have saves for ref material.
One thing I am wondering about though is, why would the UE3 be getting used at ND? The team working on the Pitfall-esk game use using their own proprietary engine arn't they? If so why not share engine tech across teams?
Not sure if your able to answer such a question, but figure it was worth throwing out their anyhow.

PolyHertz- We at ND are using our own proprietary engine. This image is not from ND's game. it was a past project from a different company that still has yet to be announced. I have no idea when they plan on announcing it but hopefully soon. If they do i'll be sure to repost this for everyone who didn't get a chance to see it.
patricksharpe - thanks for the kind words! and you are right, it is very hard having a full time job to find the time to do side projects to this extent. For the most part I tend to work on things that I can finish a little quicker. I do have a few projects that I am working on that should be of similar style. Again I have no idea when they will be done because of my lack of free time.
I also have to give a ton of credit to Anthony Fransisco. I dont think this character would have turned out half as good if it didn't start from a great concept by him. I wish I was able to post his concept work for him up. Hopefully when news gets released I can do so.
feureau - I can't say what game this is for. I have been asked to remove any images and remain quiet about the whole project. All I can hope for is that the project gets announced soon and some details start to surface.
Thanks again everyone for all the compliments! Hopefully in the near future I can show some other work not related to this!

Anyone who has entered into the world of 3d modeling / animation knows that its a lifestyle not realy a hobby. So far with my own experiance after leaving school (long story) I have done modeling jobs for the people I either work for or work with. Everything from modeling conceptual designs for high end computer fabrication, concept development for POS (point of sale) systems and add on packages, and concept design for weapons manufacturing. My job isnt even in the art or 3d field, Im a IT professional/computer technition/network engineer/internet technition/software instructor/computer designer/computer builder/fabricator (haha this list just keeps going on man) but if anyone knows you have modeling / animation skills they'll always try to put you on a new project. So I know what its like to be on the short stick of time Diamant. So as with any lifestyle choices we aint got nothin but time man. Post some work when you can bro you already know we're waiting.....no pressure!
Peace
woy very cool! i was in time to save those images to my inspiring folder.
thanks=)

Why would you ask people to do someting that will basically get another in trouble and prevent the larger group from seeing cool stuff in the future?
He was asked to remove them. That means the intent is for you to respect that as well.
If you saved them and you do that for everything, good for you, apparently you have oodles of disk space to waste. If you did not save them, why are they of importance now?
A real shame on all counts.
