Wacom Purchase

Hey,
I’m a new Zbrush user and I’m about to purchase a Wacom tablet. Based on some earlier threads, the best choice appeared to be the Intuos 6x8, and some suggested that larger was probably overkill. Is this true? Also, I failed to factor in the fact that there are widescreen versions available (and I have a widescreen monitor), eg the 6x11, I believe. Does wide vs. full make any difference as far as Zbrush is concerned? I will use the tablet mostly for Zbrush, but it is likely I will use it for other apps as well. In any case, which Wacom model would you suggest (other than a cintiq, which I wish i could afford :D )? Thanks :)

When I decided to upgrade to the Intuos 3 I ordered the 6x11 format because I have a widescreen monitor. I'm pleased with the results. After I started using it I also ordered the classic stylus because I couldn't get used to the standard fat-boy stylus that it comes with.

Frankly, I think the wide Intuos 3 is more necessary for various 2D drawing packages than for ZBrush.

It might be helpful for you to download the Intuos 3 manual to review its features.

(So, just to clarify, the wide isn't detrimental at all in zbrush, it just doesn't necessarily add anything, right?)

In my experience, yes - you'll be happy with either the standard or wide-format Intuos 3 for zBrush. Note that either can be configured to maintain correct x,y scale to whatever screen dimensions you'll be using, even on an application by application basis.

If you can afford the Intuos 3, buy it. It's a worthwhile investment. (my last Wacom was 8 years old when I finally bought my new one.)
