Hi fellow zbrushers,

I have been a lazy zbrusher lately and hopefuly it is over now.
I'm starting a new z-project and a big problem already show up.

If I create a huge Plane3d object and I want to draw several symetrical things on it, I'd have to draw everything in the midle of the Plane3d.
Is is possible to select a part of the Plane3d and tell the symetry to afect only that part ?

well i hope i get this right but as far as free hand sym well your out of luck, you can use x,y,z,radius-count or a combo x,and y or y radius, orzand x radius 69, etc...just play with it..

I aelly dont understand your question. Maybe a stencil would help modeling to only affect a certain area. HOpefully someone else can help you out.

Howdy Korr3d

Not so sure I understand your question but I will try to answer what I think you mean. Perhaps if you restated the problem we might be able to help you better.

1st, you don't have to work with a huge 3Dplane. Enlarge it on the canvas where it is a comfortable working size. After you are done modelling it then you can make it larger to fit whatever purpose that you have.

Read some of the tutorials found in Quicklinks, located at the top right of every forum page on masking. You can mask all the areas that you do not wish to affect with your modelling.

use the + and - key to zoom your view in to do fine work on your model.

As the Doc says you can also limit your modelling in the one or more of the 3 axis by selecting XYZ in the Transform Palette.

Hope that helps

This should clarify everything.

How can we draw a wall of screaming 3d faces that can be animated using morph targets ?

A big Plane3d on wich we can draw many 3d faces is needed. We'd also need to be able to use the symetry on each 3d face regardless of it's location on the Plane3d. Otherwise we'd have to draw both sides of the 3d faces doubling the work time.

The plane 3d must remain editable and everything must be modeled on the same object.

I want to be able to tell the symetry where it's center is because I can't draw anywhere else than the center of the plane like on this image.

I want to be able to draw the red things like i've been able to draw the blue and green things.

Hi Korr3D

Yes, I understand now. The center of the mesh is the focal point of the symmetry feature. To do what you want you must change the center of the object. You can do this by

1. Locate Tools :Deformation:Offset

2. to the right you will see xyz selections. select only x to offset in x. other combinations would be y or xy. Deselect Z as we are working on a 3DPlane.
3. Moving the center using the Offset should allow you to place a symmetrical drawing anywhere on the plane.
4. to Restore the center of the Plane press the "Unity Key"

If I have some time later today I will make a script to make this easier or perhaps you or someone else could cause I think I have a full day ahead of me.

Hope this helps

Hey Digits ! :tu:

This is exactly what I need. It is much simpler than I taught it would be. Tanks a lot.

My coding skills are quite inexistant so I'll have to pass on coding a script for this. I don't think a script is needed for that anyways since it's really easy to do once you know how to do it.

Tanks again, now I'm ready to start :)

ahhh I had lost my symmetry, thank you Digit!! :tu:
