View Full Version : Attempt at realistic head

Here's an attempt at a realistic head. Not too shabby, I guess -- just don't look real close at the ears ;).

If anyone is interested in head and figure sculpting (in any medium), I recommend Burne Hogarth's "Dynamic Anatomy" and George Bridgman's "Constructive Anatomy".

Question: When I inverse-mask part of the face, like the nose, and try to scale it to proportion, the scaling doesn't work real well -- but maybe I'm not doing it right. The tool that I'm selecting is Edit Object [T] and Scale [E]. Am I using the right tool? Can I scale the nose in its entirety, as opposed to scaling it piece-by-piece? (Maybe I just needed a bigger draw size.)

BTW, this is one of the best message boards I've seen. :) Your enthusiasm for ZBrush is infectious. It's funny, I wasn't looking for 3D software for modeling -- I was just looking to punch up some 2D designs. But I'm getting hooked....

Not bad at all. Might I suggest pulling in the section that I outlined in red? So that it will look a bit more like the left (altered) side of the image.

Cool work - welcome Thunderwatch!
Re your question;
I think you may want to mask the nose then invert mask and Smooth.
Use Ctrl + [Q] (inverted Draw Pointer) while in edit mode to paint the mask.
Then Tool > Modifiers > Selection > Inv[ert]

This will let you change the nose using either [W] Move or Scale as you wish.
A very low Z value seems to give more control.

Best regards,

Paul

Very good model, well done. For scaling, you might try masking, then using the size deformer. (Tool ::Modifiers ::Deformation) Then use the smooth a whole bunch.

Thanks, all. :)

Downwrdspiral: Thanks for the tip. It's much better taking down those areas.
