Greetings,
I've been experiment with initialization settings on primitives and trying to figure
out how to make a simple round slot head screw.
Well I managed to figure out how to get the
slotted head and added a twisted cylinder that had been masked, smoothed, and inflated.
This is my result. http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_image-1052934267nch.jpg

That's a good result!

Looking good. My only suggestion would be that the screw thread is at much to steep an angle: it would add realism, and also remove some of the awkward appearance at the tip of the bolt, if the angle were reduced to be not far off orthogonal to the shaft. :tu:

Great aspect of the object !
Now we want the screwdriver :)

PS Maybe the groove's screw is too deep :)

Yeah, but Arf- better make that a power screwdriver. (So you can drill Frenchy's kneecaps, he'll get a buzz out of that) :D

But in softness ! I am very sensible :D

Bill(Flycatcher),
I've been looking into making the screw more realistic by initializing a high count
polygonal cube and twisting( if you get my Z-drift ).
Otherwise I haven't got the result I'm after yet,but I'm digging( Z-cutting ) into
it ;)

Greetings,
I've recorded my method for making the slotted head for the screw for those that
might be interested.slot head method.TXT (http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_file-1053058737vxy.txt)

Get your drift OK, Arf, in fact I've used the same method on a hexagonal "cube" to create stretch'n'twist wrought-iron railings. Not sure how I'd go about converting the idea to produce a screw-thread though; hope it works out for you. ;)

Bill,
I tried initializing the polygonal cube with
six sides and got a little better result after flattening the ends. Although to retain sharp edges the object must remain a
polymesh object.
Anyway here's my finished revision.
Hmm, now after taking a second look after posting I believe if I would have masked the upper-end of the cube before twisting the threads wouldn't go all the way into the screwhead.

Hi Arfgraf http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_image-1053162917iqy.gif
In a short time, I am sure that you will need this :)

ps It's not Zbrush but just a photo :)

That worked better than I expected, Arf; I thought retaining the sharp edges would prove to be a bit of a problem with the number of twists you would have to make. I intended to mention masking the top of the shaft last post, but forgot. You got one strange little artefact though - a little swelling in the top screw near the tip. Difficult to imagine how this would have happened with just twisting.

Bill,
That was an accidental Z-add. I just didn't
bother to go back and correct it.

Frenchy,
Are you trying to motivate me to make a
screwdriver ;)
Actually I've been thinking about that- one
preferably with the clear and orange stripe
handle :)

Frenchy,
Here's a screwdriver for you to flesh out
that toolbox ;)

Frenchy,
Here's a more traditional Stanley ;) http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/uploaded_from_zbc/200305/user_image-1053235279fwx.jpg
