The man that gave this mask to me is dead now. Before he died he told me;
Every so often throughout my life I thought about my own death and how fragile
the life I cling to must be. I have no religion so I know my death brings nothing but a cold end to life.
Since aquiring this mask I find myself pondering my mortality every single minute of every single hour.
I no longer want it...do you?
Of course I wanted it. Yet, I find myself sitting here thinking
strange thoughts....

Loosly based on an image found after a google image search.
Whoever made the original mask has some serious mojo hands and a wealth of talent.
The low poly head was blocked out in Lightwave then re-worked
in ZBrush with a very high poly count. All the thorns and roots are basic ZTools modified and Snake brushed.
The document was 2000x2000 and I used four layers, three lights and two materials.

this is stunning, glen!
In my mind the consequence of death doesn´t depend on religion, but on the things you experienced, on the people you really loved and the changes you made out of these two things. There will be no cold end if you always try live for the moment.
very well done! :tu: :tu: :tu:

I reckon the guy who made this model of the mask also has some pretty serious talent too! I'm surprised that this has attracted little comment (at least so far) - I rate it very highly among your work, in fact well up among my personal favourites. :tu: :tu: :tu:

wow , I'd love to know how you did some of the things in this image , but I can't really explain , since I dont know what the english word for it is ...
so ...
-The things that hang from the mask and are worn out? I'd like to know especially about the material or texture used for it.
-The papyrus like covering of the mask with the cuts in it.
again , very nice image

Hi Namek
Q1. The texture for the Papyrus was the marble texture featured below. A long time ago I wrote a TEXTUREMANAGER Zscript to manage all my textures. (see here in the image below). The Marble was simple one of those with no editing at all, I simply scaled it vertically.

Q2. Holes
This one is easy and will dissapoint the 3D Purists out there.
1. Render the final image with shadows
2. Export it as a PSD
3. Bring it back on a 3DPlane
4. Use CLONERBRUSH
5. Put fake holes wherever you like. Cloner Brush is the same as you get in Photoshop except you use it with CTRL instead of ALT and Photshop can't do 3D or Material Cloning. How cool is ZBrush!

thanks for the quick reply!
Marble texture , nifty :)
Never thought of the clone tool , actually havent used it that much (I use it in photoshop a lot more) , guess I'm gonna have to try it out. Easy indeed , but why do it hard if it can be done easily :p
thanks Glenn.
BTW : your new splash screen is hillarious :p
