this is my WIP for the blizzard art competition. trying to finish it up as i have only 2 days left before the deadline. most of the base modelling was done in MAYA and then on to Zbrush for detailing and texturing. final render in maya. any critique would of great help.

Look really awesome, just the right arm seems to ghost away?Especially by the ghoul left arm.The ghoul bottom left is also rather sharp focused right next to a fade out part of the figure? So a littl work on the arm and the hair and your a winner!!Just my opinion, goodluck!!Bye cal

dude..i think you got it here Dado..real nice image..that leg plating need detail..and i still think a bit of forground dust and debris would be good like embers or whatever kicked up by the zombies..mmm..zombies....you have made huge strides here looks great..

Sweet render. I love the scythe. I agree with steventaylor though, the leg armor needs a little something. Perhaps a worn look or something similar to the texture on the shoulder guard. Whats the theme/guidelines for the competition? Im assuming it has something to do with raising the dead?

thanks for all the tips and comments! here's the latest render. i added the belt thingy and messed with the light some more.

XxDarkMessiahxX, the theme for the competition is to create a charater and/or and environment that would fit into one of the Blizzard universes (Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft).

Hey dado, that looks great. I love the compostion and color scheme for your piece. One thing that strikes me is that his right arm, the green one, feels like it is growing out of his ribcage. It feels like it is really low

Looking forward to seeing updates.

i just updated my previous post with the final image i'm submitting. i fixed the glow on the right arm as well as the light on it as was suggested by Jelmer. more dust and scratches and now i think its done.

thank you all for your kind comments!

Very cool! I love that character to the left. He has a good pose and a good face expression! Also the green color for the light looks very nice.

Ok have a good one!

Dado, excellent work, a tiny suggestion I would play around a bit with Depth of Field on your rendering camera just to see if you could get something even more awesome. Your work is great,

I have a question for you, how did you get all those high poly models in maya? Did you displace that geometry or is it not too high poly?

Many thanks!
Colin

To whom it may concern,

Just wanted to say I was amazed how great it was when i first saw this piece 4months ago, after 4months I am still in love with it.

I am just wondering...have you tried reducing down the glowing effect in the undead(left of necro)'s eyes? just a slight decrease might contribute more dominance of theme to the necro...!! or not, just a ponder.

anyway, keep up the good work.

Thats amazing, i have surched for pics for cover art non come close to this.
Would it be possible if i could use one of your necromancer pics for the cover of my novel. im 17 and i hope to be finished next year, this novel is called The Corpse Reanimator and its about an aging mage that is given an unkown spell book containing grusom rituals, an entity forces him to learn necromancy and do his bidding. He doesin't want to do it he thinks its barbaric, but his forced for reasons i can't give. That character you drew is exactly how i pictured him, hes old, and the expression shows one of sadness.

Id love to hear from you, Fear Monger.
