View Full Version : E.M.D.
Recently started on this new model from a basic sphere. I thought I'd see how far I could go with dividing- the head has reached the 250,000 poly limit! Never tried that before...

Got a few things planned for this, will keep you updated of course.
I'll also make time for some of your threads. There's a lot to catch up on so I'll eke it out next week. ;)

Grub WOW just beutiful and the color you pick and the material make an impressive post¡¡¡
I really like it¡¡
Congratulations
Hello Grub,
On first sight I thought this was not a zb model, you have controlled the mesh very well, keeping everything smooth and sharp just exellent. On second view I was futher impressed becuase of how well you were able crease the mesh cleanly. Futher I must compliment you on the eys nose and mouth..oustanding attention to detail .....welldone Grub.
Any secrets on how you were able to control the mesh so well...or was it all realy just hard work :)?
Thanks for showing your work

damn , why do I keep missing great posts , thank god for the thumbnails :)
excellent model , you managed to control the mesh very well indeed.
:tu: :tu:
Excellent! grub, we certainly missed your work! :) :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :)
Thanks for your comments! :)
I used the standard sphere this time for a change, although if you want greater control over your mesh it's better to start with a ZSphere base.

I quickly ran out of polies on this head. Had to mask and optimise the dense poles to allow further division on other areas that needed a lot of details: like the eyes, ears and mouth (resulting in some unwanted polar poly-pinching under the chin). In the next ZBrush release, with the ability to handle millions of polies that'll probably not matter. :tu:
hi grub, i am glad you are back. i read about your trouble. this is very bad. hope your comp is ok by now and can stay clean.
i love this head. yes the poles-optimy messed it up a little, but not too bad. great work.

Hey Grub ,
That's one wicked head model in all sense of the word !!!
It's great to see you back ,bud ! ;)
Steve.
Thanks all, here is an update...
I thought I'd show this, though still very much a wip at this stage. I'm modelling all the parts with seperate standard spheres in keeping with the head (old school, or what?). :D

Had no idea this amazing level of quality was available from a tool i could ever have access to.
Simply can't see any way this model could be improved.
Inspiration like this can motivate a lot of learning effort and carry one over a lot of rough spots!

That 'overall' shot is WONDERFUL Rob! :tu: :tu: :tu:
'Old school' or not, now that I see where you're headed, I really want to see the finish of the journey! That material application rox!! (Even if you don't use it in the finished piece, it really suits the sculptural feel)
great anatomy. ;) yes, modeling in parts is good to keep high poly overall and not get things in your way while modeling. i think the old method has still its value.

I love working this way in ZBrush. Well done.
G
Appreciate the comments. :) Another reason for tackling the parts seperately is that since you currently have a 250000 limit on an object, you're able to go up to that limit for each part, for more detail. Well, these are my rules for doing it 'old school' this time round. ;)

great looking character , you smoothed out the parts very nicely , if you wouldnt have said they were seperate I probably wouldnt have noticed it :)

Great work.Jaelous with envy here.To bad you do not give a scrip so that people like me trying to work with ZBrush could pratice.
Seeing beat reading many books.... ;) :tu: :tu:
Hey BertRus, fight down the twinge of the green-eyed monster. :D I'm not one for doing scripts as it doesn't suit my workflow, though usually I do show step-by-steps, so that others can find insight that way. I'll post some when I come back to this wip. :tu:
