View Full Version : Why I like ZBrush...
This is going to seem like a love letter to
ZBrush, but it's true. I've been comparing ZBrushrenders to a few other programs and the difference is very interesting, I think. Namely, Lightwave, and Carrara. These two programs have very strong controls over lighting, but there is a certain flatness also. The following example shows the same head .obj rendered in the three different programs. The background is different in the ZBrush render, but notice how the exact same eyes come out so different between Carrara and ZBrush. I'm certainly no expert in any of these programs, I just thought you'd be interested in seeing this kind of comparison :)

You're right, Zoid. I've been in love with the ZBrush rendering engine for quite a while. It certainly blows the doors off of Poser's, and looks like it takes Carrera to the cleaners, too. LightWave has a truly phenomenal rendering engine behind it, but it takes a lot of time and tweaking to get the surface settings just right. And of course, the difference in speed is a huge plus in ZBrush's favor. There is no such thing as real time in LightWave -- even with its VIPER previewer.

and the best thing is: "they" gonna improve it even (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002807) more (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=003539&p=4) :D :D :D + :tu: :tu: :tu:....

Amen Brother!
Aside from the instant gratification of a real-time rendering engine you don't have to have a Doctor's Degree in Technology to create something in Zbrush. Zbrush is like strapping a Bionic Artist to your mouse.

I think I would like to see the same thing done again...but with the exact model and exact scenes with the same backgrounds..that would truly give a greater representation of the programs...(but it would be for curiosity sake since I only have zbrush of the three forementioned progs) ;)
i agree with Ron i would like to see the same pic and same angle to see the true test because when a pic turned in a differnt angle the Lighting my not be Dirrect in the same area,,,
if the lights is NOT focus on the eye sure its going to be some what fLAT...
it all depends were the lights focusing.
same pic ,same angle, same light dirrection, same intenisity..
the bottom right pic looks as if he's looking into the lighting giving his eye's a glow look... the pic on the left of it looks as if he's looking away and down from the light which would make it look some what flat

Hey, count me heavily in on any love letters regarding ZBrush! I don't even see my monitor anymore...Just a 3D Work Tank! ;)
All I have to say is that there may be someone out there who loves ZBrush as much as I do, but I am certain that no one can ever love it more.
How right you are Jeeves... or Zoid, whoever.
Weeeee loooooove our ZeeeeeeeeeeBrush!!! :D
Obviously I was preaching to the choir here, we all love ZBrush. But still I can't help being interested in other programs and seeing what they have to offer. What I need to do is stop spinning my wheels with other programs and just focus on ZBrush. This kind of test helps me do that. It is very exciting to know that the already excellent rendering qualities of ZBrush are soon to get better. Ron and EZ are right, it would be better to see a side by side comparison and my first example wasn't very fair to Carrara. Here's another comparison, can you tell which one is ZBrush? ;)

A fine comparison. I've never played with Carrara, still, I can see major differences between that prog, and ZBrush. ZBrush wins, hands down.
