I had a break-through. After studying Stonecutter's HeadNeyes.txt and Upham's links, something clicked. I find keeping the z-intensity real low gives you optimum control.
Silent Bob, you suggested big brush sizes for overall modeling, and it worked perfectly.
So here's my first sculpted head. Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
I included the file in case you want a 3d look at things.
You guys rule! (But you already knew that.)

P.S. How do I get the thumbnail to show up on the first page?

Obviously you got a lot of info here, and used it well! Z-Intensity and Brush Size are the important things in terms of control when modelling...
This is a nice first head! :tu:  :tu:
Everybody here is on the same page...We all help each other.
(Your thumbnail will show up automatically...Check back, and you'll see it!)
Nice head TH. SC is a master modeler, follow his advice and you will not go wrong.

Hey there Thunder...at first glance it reminded me of Agamemnons mask but then i took a closer look and saw the horns etc. anyway...it looks like you are on you way to a satisfying relationship with Zbrush. My method for modeling heads is to do the general shape with the 'move' tool in edit mode. this helps me get the general shape i want. I don't know how most people do it but i think that works better than trying to Zadd or Zsub the general shape of the head. you may get some funny rings if you pull too much but it isn't anything 'smoothing' a few times can't fix. well i sure have rambled on. again...good luck.

Your first head model: :tu: on the overalll modelling. :tu: on the approach you took. Ah heck: :tu: :tu: :tu:
And welcome to the boards!
You will find that things will "click" in the old brainpan time and time again. You and Zbrush seem well suited to one another.

I still haven't delved into texture and materials yet -- I want to get this sculpting thing down.
I'm thinking of trying something more realistic next -- like a smooth chrome android head, without all the bony protrusions.
