Come join Pixologic at SIGGRAPH 2006 in Boston on July 30 - August 3!

Have a hunger to be among the first to learn the newest developments in store for ZBrush 2.5 -- even before it's announced at ZBC? Want to meet the Pixologic team, including Pixolator, Ryan Kingslien and Aurick? If you're passionate about ZBrush, then be our guests at this year's SIGGRAPH convention in historical Boston, Massachussettes!

For more information and the presentation schedule (which includes some well-known names!), click here (http://pixologic.com/zbrush/siggraph/siggraph-2006-boston.html).

Pixologic is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of guest passes to the exhibit floor. Anyone interested in visiting the Pixologic booth is welcome, but priority will be given to ZBC members and ZBrush license holders. If you would like to request a guest pass, please send an email to matthew@pixologic.com. In your email, include the following information:

Your name
Your email address
Your ZBC member name (if applicable)
Your purchase information (if applicable). This info would be the name and email address used for your ZBrush purchase, as well as the location you purchased through (such as the Pixologic website, or the name of your reseller).
All requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Anyone may request a pass at any time, with passes actually being issued in the following order:

July 12 through 19: Active ZBC members who are also ZBrush license holders.
July 20 through 23: ZBC members who are demo users, and all other ZBrush license holders.
July 24 through 28: All other requests.
When your request is accepted, you will receive an email giving instructions for how to register for your guest pass. The exhibits-only pass will be free, but if you choose you will also have options to upgrade in order to see more of what SIGGRAPH offers.

See you at SIGGRAPH booth #1223!

This is not possible. The passes are meant as a thank you to the many people who have supported Pixologic over the years -- especially those who participate here at ZBC.

Your friend may request a pass separately. If he or she is not a ZBC member and has not purchased a ZBrush license then it may still be possible to go. But the pass will not be issued until after the cut-offs for license holders and ZBC members. It would be fair to them, otherwise.

Wear black. That way the charcoal smudges will be less noticable. On second thought, wear white.

It seems that exhibit only passes are plenty. Just go and look at cgtalk. I got a free one this morning from someone offering about 50. During the course of the day plenty of others offering passes popped up. All without any other limitation than to drop by and say hello.
Go Fetch!

PS:Add 40$ and you have a super value. Exhibit Plus.

PPS: The registration process and all the options they offer are overwhelmingly complex. I have not seen any exhibition/conference with that complexity lol.

PPPS: Aurick.... hold one for my second day 8-))))))) Please!

I'm happy to be able to say Hi at the first day. I recall last year where Ryan could have doubled as Ogre Voice Talent after the Sigg....

I have this suspicion, due to the fact that it is highlighted that EVERYTHING can change, that there will be old wooden fruit crates with a an older 80386 Thinkpad running the demo movies about 2.5 from last Year, being powered by Aurick on a Bike which drives a Generator through a belt, while Ryan is yelling into a Bullhorn trying to keep us away from the Laptop with a whip in his other hand........

I am still confused by the whole thing. Thank god I work for a company who pays for all that. The exhibtor pass will get you into the main exhibition where all the companies are peddling their wares as well as a few other places. However, there are limits. Last year, some users taped the show but it wasn't practical to send each other footage -- hosting large files in such high demand is an expensive prospect! But sometime between then and now, new sites such as YouTube have changed the landscape completely.

Obviously, a camcorder is no substitute for the direct-feed video Pixologic eventually posts, but if we're clamoring for a webcam, surely this is at least an improvement over that idea.

bicc39
07-21-06, 10:27 AM
Sorry for delay in answering, knew I saw it, was a bitch to
find again.
On the site there is a 48 page pdf file with all the information.
schedules, seminar times etc.
On page 37 there is a special policy section.
No cameras or recording devices are permitted at Siggraph 2006.
Abuse of this policy will result in loss of the individuals registration
credentials.

Ctrl-Z
07-21-06, 11:29 AM
Wow.

I wonder if they said that in past years? If so, it wasn't enforced (as evidenced by the 9000+ pictures on Flickr alone), possibly because... if it were important enough to withdraw a persons credentials over, you wouldn't have to dig that far to find it.

Seriously, if you travel in from god-knows-where only to be grounded by something buried 37 pages into a 48 page PDF, you're a ringing endorsement for "don't bother coming next year." That's the worst kind of publicity imaginable.

*sigh*

I wouldn't risk it now, and I don't recommend that you should either.

...

No, scratch that. I'm angry.

I can understand "no video" -- perhaps media outlets are paying through the nose for their access (or are, say, sponsoring the event), and their rights should be respected. Likewise, each vendor should be able to decide which conversations they want to make public. I'm cool with that.

And, I can understand not letting you take pictures during the presentations upstairs, as they sell DVDs with the powerpoint stuff themselves, and I hope each presenter has the option to not include their research in that.

But you know what?

Get your photo taken shaking hands with people you admire, and raise bloody murder if anyone tries to stop you.

How dare they take that away?

bicc39
07-21-06, 11:45 AM
In another thread mentioned a story about me, cameras, authority.
I was pretty sure I was right, based on experience, the law, etc.
I was at that time, quite willing to enter the legal whirlpool, guns blazing.

It surprised even me, thought windmills were gone.

I was right.
Here, anyway you cut it, I would be wrong. Could lie,say I did not
know, bluff it out.
But the thinking of the possible confrontation would mar, what I hope
will be a unique and pleasurable experience.
I would hate to have to meet you all in handcuffs.
Also would not get a chance to report on what Aurick and Ryan were
wearing.
( one of the cameras, come to think of it, is small...........)
Nope! no camera......this time.

lemonnado
07-21-06, 12:28 PM
As usual..... all limits are set but not enfoced till someone get's ticked off.
I am 100% positive, that 'regular'/'touristy' picture taking will not have any consequence. If you start taking pics of the mystery product of corp X then it would be clear that there is trouble. And for that event the host has reserved the right to revoke your access to the show. I take my small digital with me. Definitely. And I know I won't have a problem as I don't act like a retard.

That PDF can be found here: http://www.siggraph.org/s2006/conference/ap.pdf for those interested.

bicc39
07-21-06, 12:31 PM
Edit: unfortunately, in a way, I agree with them, a little.
First, they are running it. Like this forum for instance.
Rules, you want in, obey rules.
Second and I am on very shaky ground here. From what I have
learned some of this is in the nature of a preview of coming attractions.
New interfaces, new procedures, characters etc.
In New York City, right now, you can buy a copy of Superman Returns
DVD for about 5 bucks.
Someone went to the theater, ran a camcorder and copied it.
You can even see one of the patrons leaving and returning to his seat.
( yes my better half bought it, saved me standing in line, satisfied my
curiousity until the real one comes out)
Point being, piracy, copyright infringement,etc.
Maya had a trade show in New York late last summer.
One of the speakers was an artist who worked on the picture
"Under the hedge". He demonstrated a character he had created for
the movie.
Guy sitting next to me videotaped the whole presentation.
Explained for "educational purposes".
It was pointed out to me later, that within a few weeks, you
would probably be seeing, t shirts, games, toys, etc with the results
of that "educational experience".
I go to Siggraph, take a picture of, you think, my friend, all of sudden
a copy of the demonstration behind him is on the internet.

I have not been to Siggraph, so I am only guessing, but I believe if I am
correct, they have a valid point.

HI.

I have seen that the 2 main futures of Z 2.5 will be modeling rig and re-surface tools, and that 2 futures looks wonderful, i also know that it will have code enhancements to previously released features - such as normal map and displacement map creation.
All that is WONDERFUL ;) .

I now that now you can not talk about what it would be show at SIGGRAPH, but my question is:

-Is there any other new big future that you haven`t mention yet on pixologic`s site?...or are you goin to just show more of the futures already mentioned on the site(rig and re-surface)?

When are you goin to post videos of the SIGGRAPH presentation?

Thanks

He was absolutely right about the mysterious powers of that substance called "drop"; I just ate one, and now I'm going to take over the world!!!

bicc39: I'd be very interested in everything Pixologic could show me at Siggraph, and I'd like to have seen the Newtek stand. Syflex for LW seems exciting. Also I'd like to meet all those people I I only know from the forums. I've only been into 3D for 3 years, so everything is still very exciting to me. I'd just walk all over Siggraph to see whats new on the market and smell the enthousiasme and thrill of all those 3D and digital art fans.
But alas, concerning 3D the Netherlands are maybe a bit the end of the world. I'm very happy with Ryan's posts and the posts from people at Siggraph: gives a feel of 'being there'.

Plakkie
08-02-06, 03:17 AM
Flea market, fried shrimps, pancakes and drop; the four things that makes the end of the world inhabitable. ;) I always think France has the best flea-markets. You say Siggraph is like a flea-market? Can you then go say to a stand with Maya boxes and negotiate about the price? Pick up a bargain package of Realflow with 90 percent discount? In that case I'll fly over there right now!
It's nice to hear you like my country. I find the flatness of the landscape depressing sometimes, but on the windy day with sun and clouds it can be a nice place to live in. Just curious: where are you from Zaphod?

Plakkie
08-02-06, 03:36 AM
Ah, Gutentag Herr Zaphod.
People should move to another country once a year to stop getting used to where they live. :D I'd give much for living between the mountains, but one probably gets used to that as well. Last year a friend of mine went to Bavaria for holliday, so not all of the Dutch are passing by. (Don't know if you must be happy with that)

Just saw an on-site movie (http://features.cgsociety.org/siggraph2006/part_one/) from Siggraph, and it's bigger then I even realised. All those companies showing of their new cool features... must be cool!

I do so loves me some ZBrush keychain. Yessirree!

(got one at Siggraph 2004, and another at Siggraph 2005. One of them broke eventually, but I do still carry both everywhere. They're just very nice. Tangible weight, spinning element to play with.. What's not to love?)
