Make sure your comp can upgrade that much some people put in more Ram then the comp can use...
sure it will take it but it wont use it...
i use 256 RAM and all my APP run good
why Blow money if you dont need to here some tweaking tips you can read here http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002424&p=2

256 is good , but 512 is recommended if you are gonna use 3d programs.
Although I dont think that OS like windows 95-98SE support more than 512 , windows 2000 , windows Xp do.
I dont know how much memory blocks cost where you live , but at the moment I advise you to wait. When SDRam gets taken out of production , DDRam will become cheaper.
Memory costs 4 times the price than it should cost at the moment where I live.

zBrush seems to use an over excesive amount of RAM and resources while its runnin. On my dads computer, PII 333mhz 512RAM it barely holds on if you even try to divide a simply sphere. But on My computer it runs just fine, but then there arent many things that dont run on an AMD Athlon 1.4ghz, ABIT KG-7 VIA 686B 266mhz (motherboard can hold upto 1gig of RAM), 256 DDR RAM, 80gig HD, but more RAM is definantly going to be added in the near future.
I guess the point is that zBrush is VerY picky and needs to have a perfect amount of both speed and RAM.
www.a2zcomp.com (http://www.a2zcomp.com) has 256MB DDR 266mhz RAM for $79 or 256MB 200mhz RAM for $72.
Namek is right -- only Win 2000 and XP support over 512 on the PC.
The price of DDR RAM will probably go down. But it might not. RAM has fluctuated wildly in price over the years, and it is only recently that we've seen a steady, continuous decrease in price. But the computer world is very unpredictable. Remember the SCSI bandwagon? Everyone was sure that it would get less espensive, but the surprise advent of UDMA66 and UDMA100 changed that. Who's to say that something similar won't happen with DDR?
My advice is that if you can afford the extra RAM, and your OS supports it, go for the upgrade. Maybe you'll spend more than you need to in the end, but I suspect you'll get enough happiness and increased productivity out of having the extra capability now to be worth it.
