We can make very nice texture using ZBrush. If we want to export the texture to Bryce, or Poser, how can we export (or transfer) the material information?

Thank you very much.

Hi HimiCo,
You can find more info. on ZBrush/Poser and ZBrush/Bryce by visiting the Quicklinks section. (top of the ZBC forum page). There are 2 links. One is called:
Poser, Importing and Exporting
The other is called:
Other Applications, Importing and Exporting
In addition you can visit Glen's website
HERE (http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/)
Hope this helps

Hi Himco,

The texture is easy.

TEXTURE>INVENTORY>EXPORT and save your current texture as a PSD or BMP.

If it is on a model and you want to unwrap it so that it shows in the Texture Panel then use:-

TOOL>MODIFIER>TEXTURE>COL-TXR and a copt of your texture appears in the Texture Panel.

Now, materials are a different matter. As materials in ZBrush and procedural they cannot be exported to another application. FOr example, if you create a material with a lot of noise and colour bump and then export the texture, the texture retains all the colour information but none of the effects. This is the same with a lot of 3D/2.5D programs. Bryce had a deep texture editor that no one was even told about until later versions. Eric Wenger wrote it in so he could make his own fantastic materials and textures but they didn't tell anyone about it! Hidden jewels hey!

There ARE ways to get the material info out of ZBrush, although the material will be a part of the texture and won't react with light in other programs the same way that it does in ZBrush.

Using the TextureMaster, you can texture with materials in addition to color. When you're done texturing, unwrap the texture onto a blank layer, modify the material settings to finalize whatever effect you're after, and then use the MRGBZGrabber with Auto Crop off and Shaded RGB on. This will pick up the colors that are created by the materials.

You can also create an instant bump map by going to the Texture palette and clicking the button to make an alpha out of your texture. Export that alpha and use it for your bump map -- it's very high quality.

Finally, you can make other maps such as reflection by creating a new layer over top of the unwrapped texture. On this layer, paint with only RGB on in the Draw palette (no Z), and use only greyscale colors. You can paint your map directly over top of the other texture, so you can see what you're doing. When done, do another MRGBZGrab to save your map.

Hope that helps!
