Another imaginary tropical bay to get more practice on foliage in a landscape painting. If only I could find somewhere in the world that looked like this, but where the temperature rarely rose above the mid-sixties Fahrenheit, which is about my upper thermal tolerance... :D

Techniques slightly modified from Newbie Lesson Two (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=004855) with rocks created also using DeeVee's method (http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=006434).
All ZBrush except for the distant birds which were added in Paint Shop Pro from a handy picture tube I made some time ago for such purposes - just for speed and convenience.
FC I like this image a lot.
I cannot believe your ideal temperature is the mid sisties. In the Caymans if the temperature drops to the low sixties which it sometimes does in January and Feburary every year. You wonder where the winter coats come from :D
I think you are doing well. At my home in Montserrat which is at about 2000 feet above sea, it is rare for the temp. to go above 79.
In the winter months it goes down to the high 50's sometimes.
Those islands are out there you just have to go look for them. :tu: :tu: :tu: :D :D :D
Addition: If I was to change anything on your image it would be the surf. It is rare to see one wave breaking all across the beach, If you broke it up a bit,it would add a little more realism to this splendid image

Thanks DeeVee; you are right of course. :)
I think the surf is the area of these landscapes that is giving me the most trouble at present - though I hadn't grasped the point that you made above - so that will be one improvement next time. Must critically study a few photographs of sea and surf. It's also about time to look at some of the tutorials on this aspect.
I usualy have a go at these things on my own first, so I don't go in with preconceived ideas from somewhere else. Then when I have a feeling for what I can achieve doing it my way and what the problems are, that is when I like to look at what others have done (usually better) before me. Slower, I know, but sometimes I think it gives me a better understanding of the possibilities.
Thank you for your continued encouragement which is much appreciated. :)

very nice image...the only real beach I have ever been too was at Loret DeMar in Costa Brava Spain back in 84'....it was awesome but the water was too cold to swim in...I waded out up to my knees..bout froze to death...it was April then I believe....the only place i have been to that keeps in the 60's is here in my basement...mid to upper 60s all year round....and I love it that way :) May you find paradise for yourself :tu: :tu: :tu:
As they say in the islands 'no problem' that is what we are here to learn from each other. It is sad that some do not see it that way. Thanks for understanding.
DeeVee,
Joe.
I'm with you Flycatcher, anything above 70 and I'm starting to suffer.
Love the water color and the distant mountains. Very nice.

Hee Hee, for me to get to something like this painting depicts, I have to travel thousands of miles! But I can dream :p
Seriously, nice picture, the sand and water are great and I really like the palm tree. As for surf, well I am still struggling with that one too!

Very nice image! I love it all. The tree is terrific! :D

a very nice image man. Must learn how to do natural media style in zbrush.... you got a really nice grip on it it would seem. Only complaint is the little bit of noise on some of the white water, seems a little out of place with the smoothness of the rest of it. Still, be damned if I can do something half as nice.

Thanks for the comments everyone - glad you enjoyed it.
Slynky - It seemed a good idea at the time, but now I tend to agree. Must work more on surf.
DLee - I used to be notorious for my thermal intolerance before I took early retirement. People used to hate meetings in my office in the winter, because I never had the radiators on, and usually had the window open. I would be sitting there in shirt sleeves, while some people came in wearing their overcoats and actually kept them on throughout! Still, it did make the meetings proceed at a fairly brisk pace. :D
