i just realized, that this forum, and the discussions on it, changed my attitude and made me think.
i spent the last years with *evil* things, like advertisements, packaging and web design, thinking much more about *making things look pretty and sell that crap* and pondering techniques, rendering parameters and filesizes, instead of thinking about *what do i want to say / express*.

even though i do not regard myself as an artist, heck, not even an illustrator, i can't ignore that how i spent my working hours, and *what* i spent them with, actually is quite boring and of no importance at all. and, what's even worse, i didn't even get rich, famous or beautiful :)

so, thanx for getting me back on track and making me think more about message and less about form.

i finally found a quote too:
*form follows function*

:) Very cool.

I understand what you are saying.

I was (and I DO mean was) so money motivated that I NEVER made a piece of artwork UNLESS it was already sold, contracted, or ramped for sale.

I hadn't made art for art's sake for 4 years. I forgot how to let go and just do it for no good reason. That changed about April of '01.

If ZBrush is ever sold on the shelf in a trendy box, I think your post should be printed on the cover somewhere!
Well said el_pix! :tu: :tu: We've all felt this way at sometime thanks to ZB!

A long time ago I'd considered going into
commercial arts-and even tried my hand at it.
About two or three jobs into my new career
I suddenly came to the realization that I really did not enjoy being told that this
or that didn't look quite right and that this graphic artists thing was not for me.It was to constricting.I do admire anybody who has been able to make a go of it-dealing with the public through an art director whoa!Or dealing with the public head on can be tough.I'll take the caneing,it hurts more but at least I had a rough idea when it would end.I,in a roundabout way, know where you are coming from.Just being able to be creative, having the freedom to pursue that and having a tool like "Z"-well what more could you ask for?
