View Full Version : DAZ Club Members Hexagon 2 for 2.00
Am a member of Daz Platinum Club.
They are currently selling the full version
of Hexagon 2 for 1.99.
Thought it was a joke.
Purchased and am downloading now.
Problem is that the download is over 330 mbs.
Will advise when complete.
To see the full page ad on daz
do a search of Hexagon 2 Daz.
It is buried on their site.

How much are they paying people to become Daz Platinum members? ;)
further:
In conjunction with the Hexagon 2 release, DAZ has announced a limited time promotion,
which ends May 31, 2006, providing the electronic download version (ESD) of Hexagon 2 at the DAZ webstore for the nominal price of US$1.99 for new and current members of DAZ’s Platinum Club. Initial cost to join the Platinum Club is US$29.95, with a monthly renewal fee of US$7.95. Alternatively, members can choose to join for an entire year with a flat fee of US$99.95. This special offer for Hexagon 2 ends May 31, 2006, after which the software will be priced at US$269 for the full version or US$119 for the upgrade from Hexagon 1. As a thank you to customers who pre-ordered the Hexagon 2 upgrade, DAZ will provide them a free one month Platinum Club membership with an option to renew, a US$30 value, along with a US$100 voucher which can be used on the DAZ store.
Physical versions of Hexagon 2 are expected to begin shipping in June 2006. Hexagon 1 was introduced to the 3D industry by Eovia Corporation in spring 2005. Eovia announced Hexagon 2 and its new features just last month. DAZ acquired Eovia Corp. along with the Hexagon and Carrara technology on April 13, 2006.
More information about DAZ Hexagon 2 software including a complete feature list can be found on the DAZ website at: www.daz3d.com. (http://www.daz3d.com./)

That can only be beaten by the ZBrush 2.5 upgrade price 8-).

Mr. Pilou: goes without saying that these great programs
owe their expertise to France.
Any program that is favored by Marcel ( Carrara) can't be too bad;)
edit: appears daz has solved download problems all is running
smoothly.

Could not load it during the day. Got it now and installed. All good. I tried it on the mac. They really have some issues but it did not crash yet. But I am really happy that I did not pay 300$ for it as it seems rather limited. But in it's way, as far as I can see it within 15 minutes, it seems to be a nice starter app.
Lemo
lemonado. What do you mean by seems to be limited?

Some ops like the boolean I tried did not yield the results I get with progs like XSI. When I switch views on the mac it has redraw problems. Nothing serious, just not up to par with the XSI modeler, Silo, and Modo. .OBJ export also resulted in a strange mesh. But then again, I used it about 20 mins... So take that with a grain of salt... Any case... 30$ hahahahahahahahahahaha. I've never seen anything like it for 30$.... Way cool for that money. I bet quite a few people had to get the Coffee out of the keyboard after reading that this morning.
Lemo
PS:IMHO DAZ has grabbed the entire 'low end' from any other manufacturer....
It ain't bad for 2.00 either:D

$31.94 total will get you this program! $29.95 (You can cancel at any time!) and $1.99 for Hexagon 2!
I'm downloading now! I think it has potential, of course when Zbrush 2.5 comes out, I will probably will forget about this program.....oh well.

I think right now, it's probably the best addition to ZBrush. Some modeling tools are real fun and the bugger is realy surprisingly quick.

I bought this too. I hope they take care of everything it looks really promising! The only think cheaper is Blender. :D Kind of a weak user gallery though. Hopefully that will improve it its easy to use.

If you need a decent modeling app. Get Hexagon2. You can't beat it for 32.00 dollars. Just make certain your platinum membership is valid so you can buy Hex2 for $2.00.

Hex2 is working well. The only real bug is with the A/O. It keeps refreashing by itself, and there is no way to exit that opperation. The A/O does look really cool though, and I easily hit 2Million polys. The open gl refreash time was about 45 seconds for that model.(using the ambient occulsion).
I got Hex2 running on my PC and the Imac, no issues so far, to be honest this seems a very nice modelling program and the advanced features are not to be snubbed either. at a glance it seems to have more new features than Silo but they are due to release a major update soon. The price including PC membershiup is unbeatable and it should serve as a very complimentary modeler with ZBrush as your detailer and renderer. I know there are those that use Maya and XSI etc as the final render programs but for those on a budget HEX2 and Zbrush are very powerfull programs.
I am having so much fun finding new stuff with HEX2 and still finding new stuff with ZBrush, ZB is that type of program that will never fully be mastered, because as soon as you think you've got it mastered, you discover yet another method or technology that opens up even more opportunities.

Thank you :tu: Can't go wrong for two bucks. I don't use Daz's models anymore but I leave my platinum membership active and it has saved me a lot of money over time. Much more than it costs. I've got to learn to check it more often though. I would have missed this.

You can do a hardware (open gl) type render. I believe there is a small camera button near the bottome that can save the image. I have not had to much time to play lately though.

BIcc39.. thanks for the hint regarding the update! It runs MUCH better now. I really lost my last arguments to classify it as 2$ junker.... Wowza. I textured smome geometry from ZBrush today with it and it... it... just worked lol. Bumpmap as well as texture was easily painted on. Great addition to ZBrush.
And while being there I also got Carrara 5 PRO ... 311$ instead of 600$ are cheap considering I get more than in my XSI package right now..... So... Carrara day today 8-).
Let's see what that beast can do to my geometry hahaha. Downloading right now..

Tried it out on two machines. Seems to be very touchy about graphics cards. On one machine it keeps giving me a false error message about the version of Open GL. The manipulators wont appear but the other controls work.Says I'm running 1.4 and I'm actually running 6.somethin. I called the support phone number and got a recording directing me to another number which was Daz's
phone support. The lady who answered told me that "phone support is only for Daz software" in a very rude tone and told me that I'd have to use e-mail support which would take 24 to 48 hours for an answer. I told her I thought Daz had purchased Hexagon was I mistaken and she got testy so I got off the phone. Oh well only 2 bucks I guess. Can't complain. I hate these long email exchanges though. You send in an email explaining. 2 or 3 days later you get a response asking for more information. You send the information. 2 or 3 days later you get another answer saying we are working on it. You send another email asking when to expect a reply. Then 2 or 3 days later you get a reply that they will contact you as soon as they have an answer. Two weeks later you email again as they have forgotten you.................. I was ready to give Carrera a try but I'm waiting to see how quick the support is. Might be OK. Who know's.
Now that I've got that off my chest - I like it. Handles lots of poly's and the dynamic geometry looks interesting. A couple of little bugs. Anybody know how good Carrara's renderer is? I have not seen any renders anywhere that I can remember?

  bah these DAZ guys are really ...
First i got hexagon, that was totally ok for the price, it has some funky tools (like life painting with alphas which would be great for Zbrush too, youd not need to touch projection master again for painting details), buts still a bit buggy. no worries for that price though. But...... as they planned ive seen this nice 30% voucher that was placed to my account. Which was obviously placed there to hook people up for carrara. Had quite a hard time to convince myself that i dont actually want that software... but i won the fight at the end, hurray...
This morning theres this damn newsletter in my email ... they now sell carrara with a poser plugin, so you get even more for the bucks. Dang , im downloading now ..... haha i dont even own poser .... i haaaaaaate special deals ...;)

Blaine, this is not by way of an apology for DaZ, but
it might explain.
Have talked to customer service over the last few months
and have found them to be great, so your reponse surprised
me.
Had a question about a totally unrelated matter and decided to
call them yesterday.
Spoke to a fantastic woman. Will not give her name for obvious reasons.
The whole Eovia deal was done quickly and as far as DAZ employees were
concerned too quietly.
The customer support line was used to dealing with so many calls a day
regarding problems they knew and could solve.
All of a sudden the same people were being inundated with calls about
software and issues they knew nothing about.
Let us remember that the Program Hexagon's new release had been discussed
and was in the works for this period.
Customers had made purchases. After the deal, DAZ was the owner of a program that basically hadn't been released yet. To make matters worse
( for the employees) they came up with the deal we are discussing and the related problems. ( Not to mention the versions of Carrara and it's plug-ins)
So instead of say, five people handling about 100 calls a day about problems they could fix. They are getting 4x that many about issues that they are learning about.
Add to that the wiseass Bicc 39 tells everybody and you get the idea.
Did not mention my post to her. Was afraid.
I would say in defense of them however, I have never called there without
my questions being answered.
Have sent some people to them that is why this interested me.

I agree. Daz services has been as good as service here. Never an unsolved problem. Even good with refunds when you got the wrong stuff or an unexpected quality. Hexagon took them by surprise and one of the major problems was that there have been a lot of very rude calls as quite a few people pre ordered Hexagon for a different amount.... So stress everywhere.
Would be the same if 2.5 would have to be pre ordered for 200$ and then would be free after change of ownership. Hmmmm actually that would be worse as Bicc and I would driver there hahahahaha.
Cheers

Thanks Lemo.
Not to worry bicc39. My first thought was that they were overwhelmed. I was told no phone support though? Its running fine on one computer.
My email from Daz says the crossgrade from Poser for the Carrara bundle is under $100 but when I go to the site it is 50% higher than the email says. I must be missing something.

Ok, so both were well worth the money, however theres mainly 1 point which is a bit confusing to me. Both of the apps keep crashing regularly, if i google for the error mesages (if theres any), i find nothing! Are there no users?
Am i the only one whos PC keeps crashing all 3 minutes? For Hexagon its ok as its just very new, but for carrara? There are many occasions where the GUI just goes ultimatively slow (SSS/displacement for example). I just cant see why the GUI needs to take 5 minutes to switch windows when such features should, if at all, slow down at render time only. I have turned off preview, but that makes it only a bit better. While I find the features of both carrara and hex to be very sweet, its usefulness is heavily hidden by bugs and UI quirks. I hope ill learn how to shiparound some of these.
BTW is there a texture size restriction? 4096 maps just keep crashing the app on me.
lemonnado
05-23-06, 08:57 AM
4096 maps.... Trying to render the universe again ehhh?
I don't really have problems alike. Actually... I did not crash with Carrara yet... Maybe you would like to open the task manager and check what your memory consumption is and also check that you have apropriate graphic drivers. I found Hexagon being very sensitive and with my big ATI I had to create it's on little settings as it did not like my SoftImage settings...
Trial and error...
Good luck!

I've seen so many posts with people having issues with Hexagon and Carrara. Maybe I'm just lucky?...I have found both apps to be almost 90% as stable as C4D. That means alot...to me at least. It always helps if you post your system specs.
Erklaerbar
05-23-06, 12:45 PM
thanks, btw not the universe, just schnecki ;) I keep crashing with 4096 displacement maps, 2048 works fine thoug. A also get quite a lot of memory allocation errors while dealing with high SD levels(around 1-2 mio polys) though task manager only reports an usage of ca 600 MB (of 2GB).
Gonna try some new drivers for my ATI card, maybe even a new card doh.
I plan to do a full char rig and animate in Carrara including some Zbrush workflow, so maybe i can post some findings. Initially wanted to do it in Blender, but im somehow tempted now to do it in carrara, the material system just seems to be more convincing atm (mat nodes will only be available in blender in the next release). Woohoo my first animation...probably gonna end up in a lot of frustration lol:cool:
BTW specs are
P4 3.2 HT
2 GB RAM (fully functional per memtest)
win2000 latest
plenty HD space on both primary and scondary HD
ATI RADEON 9700 PCI express
This offer for hexagon do you actualy get to regester this product so your licenced to own it or is it just simply a cd key thing? This offer seems to good to be true and you know what that normaly means! theres a flawto it all.
Do you have to subscribe to daz for a certain anount of months to be a Platinum Club member? Just seems to easy if ppl where to just sign up just to get that offer and then cancle membership?
Erklaerbar

except some bugs theres nothing to fear. Go for it! I was a bit sceptical too, but it will not even automatically extend your 1 month membership, you have to take extra actions to stay subscribed for more than 1 month.

Hey Erklaerbar,
I'm wondering if maybe the issue is with Windows2000. Im on XP with an ATI X800 series PCI. The card you are using...did you have to install a bridge to get it to fit into the PCI slot? Just wondering because I thought the 9700 Radeon's were AGP? If so, this could be the cause.
Erklaerbar
05-24-06, 07:53 AM
sorry its an X700 pro. I confused ATI terms (got it in return of a defect 6600GT). Might be related to win2k. although the architecture should be very similar to XP. hmm, might be worth trying XP.
Blaine91555
05-25-06, 01:57 PM
Carrara - No problems other than my lack of experience. I'm running XP with an ATI card. I'm at work and I can not remember which card I have installed. Only crashed once and it was my fault. I was doing my usual trying to use it without looking at the manual:o
Hexagon - Lots of bugs and crashes a lot, but I'm willing as it sounds like it will be very desireable as they get the bugs worked out. Easy to figure out and seems to handle large poly counts with ease.
Silo - Awesome. Not very feature rich but awesome just the same. For base models its great. Not the right tool if you need accurate dimensions but for box modeling it has a simple no nonsense interface. Only problem is it won't handle enough polys. The upgrade will be free though and the community is great as well.
I did this Hex deal as I thought it was a good price, but it's as unstable as my Gran on roller skates after a few beers.
It has a nice toolset but I feel Silo 2's arrival will blow it away & I can't help thinking that's why daz have done this deal, a $280 app for $30, not good business really...
I'd say it's worth the $30 dollars but if I'd had paid the full price I would have been really pissed...

now theyre going mad .... they throw out bryce and mimic on top of carrara pro for 300USD. I can only imagine that they try to get the money back in they spent on the acquisition of Eovia.
BTW. Hexagon runs quite a lot more stable than carrara here (and i really like Hex now). I wonder if maybe the standard version is so buggy compared to pro because of the code restrictions ... -Hmmm, i think im gonna ask them if i can upgrade to pro at the difference of the price. Because i know i would love carrara if it was more stable.

I want to see some Hex 2.x creations at ZBrushCentral.
I have yet to see someone make something really cool with Hex 2.x
I bought it ... but have not had time to give it a fair shake.
Well What you make with hex 2 is more down to how well you know the program by learning it and how good you can model.
Im making a complete mountain bike in hex 2 and have started aslo to make video tutorials for this with audio part 1 will be on there soon. check the forum out here.
