One week after my first post. I took some time to explore ZB2 possibilities more in depth. After spending a lot of time using Zspheres I decided that it was faster to build my initial cages in Maya so...

I built two lores cages for anatomical models (456 quads) containing all the islands of features and ideal topology needed for this purpose (including hands but no toes). I named them Bob and Lola (male and female, who would have guessed ?)

Originally this little fella was done as a test of the Bob mesh, adding a few edge loops directly within ZB2 for the bone outgrowths. I had a lot of fun doing that test that I kept on rolling and I will continue. Here is a first result. If anyone is interested by the initial cages, just let me know...

Unnatural facial expression, I think...
And so - it is good...

Watch out... Lola might not be a real female...

Sadicus : it was rendered in ZB...

I'll keep on polishing the model and will post updates...

Early next week I will post Bob initial cage. I don't think I will retouch it because its topology is now flexible enough to do anything humanoid with it (even a bit more as you can see).

I probably won't post Lola as the topology change from one to the other is really minimal and you can easily do a female character even with Bob.

Just wait until monday :)

Two months later and still alive.
I din't have time yet (until now) to go back into ZBrush to try further features. Paradoxally, being an art lead doesn't leave you much time on your hands to create proper art material, especially personal work, who would have guessed?
However I found a little bit of time yesterday just after lunch to learn a bit more about Zbrush. I finally had the opportunity to click the holy button on the upper left corner of my Zbrush layout: PROJECTION MASTER (for displacement).

After 5 minutes of feeling the tools, and another 30 minutes of ecstatic "Wooooooh, Wooow ! Woooooooaaaaaahhhhh, this feels goooood...", I stepped back, stared at my screen and my eyes started to bleed. It is quite obvious that my first attempt at PM went completely overboard.

This is the story of my life, each time I try a cool new tool, I don't know where to stop.
Sometimes I hate myself.

Anyway, here is the result.

Don't stare at it for too long or you'll end up puking on your keyboard.
One of the assets of an art lead is to be able to find easy solutions to quickly fix problems without having to redo the whole job. So I came up with a quick analogic fix to make it look nice :

- Step away from your screen, a good 5 meters should do, then squint as hard as you can. When the whole screen becomes a big spot of brownish smudge, start skipping rapidly while shaking your head then start hyperventilating. Repeat for at least one minute and then stop.

Now look at the screen. TADAAA!
Well, you can't see much any longer (major improvement), the dizziness and the nice little glittery white stars in front of your eyesight should be enough to fool you into thinking that the picture is acceptable.

Sometimes, I hate myself.

I guess you're right... I completely forgot this bastard, haven't seen that movie for ages...It wasn't done with him (Darkness) in mind but you're right (although Tim Curry's costume is obviously much nicer):
