This is a personal project I have been working on for some time. Its hard to find the time at home to get these things done. Pretty much I wanted to give him a tired and more rundown look. especially with the armor and harsher shades under his eyes. I hope you all enjoy it. He was initially modeled in maya, sculpted and textured in zbrush, and rendered in mental ray.

Amazing! Looks real, except that the eyes don't have a "real" eye color in my opinion :)
Have you made the full model or just the head?

that's cool, I really like the skin, specially on the neck. The eyebrowns look a bit too straight, a small curve will add more real aspect.
Again, very nice
One of the best skin textures I've seen so far in this forum, nice to see it not so overdone with too many pores and wrinkles etc. The modelling is really good and the render is almost photographic. I'd love to see the finished scene you have in mind.
Well done and please keep us updated with the progress on this project

Beautiful work man. I dont really feel a worn down look from it though, perhaps lowering the brow a bit and giving him more bags under his eyes would help to portray that.
either way this is excellent work keep us updated on this.

hey, this is zbrush central, a place for people to post their COMPUTER ART. take your photographs elsewhere please ;)
seriously though, wonderful piece there, alot of expression in the eyes, plus i love the little detail of the hair on the inside of the armor. I think its about time to add something else to the top row ;)

Really really good work. Makes me want to do a bust myself. The jaw and mouth remind me of Bono. Throw on some sunglasses and some hair and I swear its him.:D

This is a great sculpture, 5 stars! I think that maybe you haven't completely captured the tired, worn down mood. To me he looks very confident. You might want to put the eye lids a little lower, exposing less of the eye. Also the corners of the mouth are turned up to much, he has a slight smile. Try bringing them down just a little bit, I think it will help. Also the slant of the eyebrows is a little too extreme. I think these subtle changes will help you get the mood you were looking for. Great job.

thanks everyone! I think you guys are right on your points.. I'll have to go back to the model and make some expression changes.. Here is the model in zbrush for you guys to look at. As of now I just made a head.. It was done for test purposes at my last company but never used.. so I figured I'd make a little render of it. I have a couple other personal pieces I really want to finish up so I'm not sure when i'll have time to do a full on character of him.. but we'll see..

Wow - again - the Zbrush models show that you have got the pores/wrinkles absolutely perfect. This is awesome, and deserves top row status.
5 Stars again, just because I can - it deserves more!
nice, but the ss is to strong, theres almost no light on the left side but the ear still is pink from the light, way top stong :/
anyway 5 stars for the model and texture ;]
now, come on, is this gonna be another cool thread taht got lost in the forum ?

amazing, i like the skin, it's a little heavy the light in the ear and the eyes looks cold, but everything else is great compadre

This is outstanding artistry! I do agree with some of the other posts that the eyes are not convincing. It could be that they lack some of the character that you gave his face, like the darker hues under the eyes that you mentioned. When I'm tired and worn out my eyes are always kinda bloodshot looking and it's hard to keep my eyelids open wide.
Terrific work! I look forward to seeing more of your talent on the top row :)

Superb.
.
the eyebrow hair looks a little too symmetrical though.

cant get any better than this.
This is fantastic!!!! I have to disagree about the eyebrows.. I've seen many men in my days that have the same line as these but that's my opinion.. :) and the eyes!!! And the slight frown..very subtle! I love the color of his eyes. They are very haunting! Alluring even! The ears are really amazing! Well you can tell I love this.. did I mention I can't wait to see him in that wonderful armour? Congrats on really a great job!

hey rich,
great job on him. the fur details you added for the padding of the armor where a really nice touch. i saw an early version of him on katon's monitor a while back ago and the final product looks really sharp.
cheers,

Thanks Ricardo! still gotta do some more stuff to him.. just way too swamped with E3 coming up.. i'm sure you know what i'm talking about!!
wat2k.. the lighting is fairly simplistic.. its pretty much just 2 spotlights.. both mental ray area lights. There is also an hdri image in there for relections.. the rendering was done in mental ray and the skin shader is the miss_fast_skin shader. If there is anything specific you'd like to know about I'd be happy to share! thanks again for all the compliments!!

very cool. I like the skin although there are places where it is too rude, and a little plastic like. But would you share your Fast skin setting? I'm really curiuous...

The fur under the armor is a great addition. I would like to see what you would come up with for the rest of the armor. Great job.
I like this very much. Very clean lines. I have been observing lately that criticisms of symetry or lack thereof, as well as criticisms of proportions in regard to the human face are all off target if the aim is to increase realism. The amount of variation in the human face is infinite, and I have met many people whose proportions were such that if I were to render them perfectly, I would be met with criticisms intended to make them more realistic...but then, I ride public transportation.....
With such caveats, I think it would help you achieve your stated goal if two things were done:
1. Add a touch of vein to the temple. It doesn't have to be a writhing snake. My own temple has a minor vein bulge that can be mistaken for a scar. Have plenty of those too--but that's another subtle touch that can help your warrior's face look lived in.
2. He is much too clean. Add a little dust or a smear of dirt.
As it is, it is an excellent render overall, and well within the standard deviation of human genetics--though he is a bit pretty--but I don't feel he is worn down. Quite the contrary, he looks determined, fresh faced and ready to go.
It might be worth your time to take a field trip to an emergency room, or take a moment to look at colleagues in the break room. Being worn down is most readlily observed as people are trying to relax, or waiting.
Ok, a third idea. Adjust how he holds his head. Think 'hangdog expression'. How would Walther Mathau show he was tired when he came home?
Just some thoughts--they're probably worth about what you payed for em.
Can you recommend tutorials you did to get the skin like that from sculpting all the way to adding details & texture etc?
