This is Trollie, a character i made a while back ive been updating for my website. scene is rendered in zbrush with some layer effects in PS
comments and criticisms would be greatly appreciated at this stage of production
Thanks trollie.jpg
It is looking good at this stage. I like the look of the trees, though I guess you are going to add more to them (leaves)? The creature is quite charming already.
I don't agree on the camera angle. Right now it is hard to tell how tall the creature is. The plants show the size to a certain extent but something more familiar, like a broken barrel would help sell the scale aspect.
Personally I would love to see the viewpoint turned 10-15 degrees to the left and about 30 degrees up while looking down. I don't know what your story is but from looking at this picture I would like to see both of 'his' big green eyes looking up at the apples and his arms reaching out towards them.
Hope that C&C is okay with you. Looking forward to seeing any updates.

good points, problem though with the camera angle is I would have to start over since its all 2.5D, reposing the character though would be easy enough to do. Im also planning on putting a sac full of other apples in his hand.
I love your point on scale. I may add some environmental animals to change reinforce it.
thanks for the comments
This shows a rich imagination and eye for detail. I want to me more. Post! Post! :)

This is looking good Polyguns, keep going I like the feel and the detail your putting into it. Only Crit, is his eyes I feel, which imho kinda makes him look as if he's on heavy drugs.
What material are you using for the trees? Is one of Froyd's, if not his tree txtrs are worth getting, then maybe use different ones on different trees to give amor natural randomness, Allso one of his gives a wonderfull moss effect.
Keep up the good work, :tu::tu::tu::tu:

I mostly textured the trees with a deco brush with a bark texture I made, basic shader, and some painting. very rough atm
the eyes, well when i first started this project I was trying to make something cute. Thats the hardest thing for me as i'm normally making monsters of some kind. but when I got those eyes, I really loved the lust in them. he wants that apple, and it will be his downfall. yea i like to rip off the bible when i can :P
thanks alot for your script andres, that should help.
I'll go ahead and post some of my tilable zbrush textures. one i used and one i didn't.
Cave Wall

this one isn't used in the scene but somewhat interesting nontheless.
now that i mentioned these, i was wondering if anyone knew how to
A. capture a good normal or displacement map from a 2.5 D image

if your still using photoshop of photographs for tilable textures, try using zbrush. you can still get some pretty good normal maps from the alpha grab.
