View Full Version : fingernails--updated-can toenails be next?
Hi, can someone clue me in on the fine art of making fingernails? I've tried several things.. zadd, zsub, tiny brush & midbrush sizes..
I've seen some great ones posted here and would appreciate someone giving me a hand with it now that I have a decent hand.. :D

ok, how's this for fingernails? Your suggestions help greatly!! Thanks! I would have textured these except I want to wait until they get attached to an arm.. LOL

One thing I've tried done with some success is to mask out the areas where you want the fingernails on your hand model. Then invert your mask and then use the deflate deformation slightly. You may have to subdivide the areas where you want your fingernails.
Unfortunately, the picture I made demonstrating this technique is at home and I'm at work.
ah thanks Winged One.. off to try my hand at it.. :D

One thing I do wenna is draw a thin line at the end of the finger where the tip of the nail would be with a brush size of 1 or 2 and ZAdd set to 1 or 2. Then I use a size 2 or 3 brush and pull the ridge out over the end of the finger.

looks pretty dang good wenna and it appears to me like the others that the finger nails problem was solved...what method did you end up using to achieve yer nails?
thank you everyone for your kind comments.. :D
Ron, I used a combination of them both. I first looked at my hand. Realize that to start with I need them indented (deflated)to make the cuticle and then actually add a nail on (like was suggested), extending it out over the nail a bit and also pushing back a little and down (very little) I used mostly brush size and zintensity of 1 or 2.
thanks again everyone.. also, the hand grew a body! one minute it was just a hand, next it was a whole body!! Be careful and lock up your zspheres as they multiply fast!!
