Constantly trying to improve my sky and water technique .
This started as a doodle and ended up as an image that I happen to like.
It is so typical of the seaside in the islands, when you can stand or sit in your car and look out at the sea and cloud formations and watch the birds dive for food. It is very soothing. I hope you will enjoy images of this type as the winter months approach.
The gulls were imported from the QuickLinks as a tool.

Well this is beautiful DeeVee. Doesn't seam like you need improving. :tu: Wow, the sky is gorgeous. Especially the layers of color in the distance. Adds a nice sense of depth...and who doesn't love a few birdies. :)
Well done man!

Thanks for the comments folks. I do spend a lot of time practicing to create skies as they form such an integral part of land/seascape painting.

Hi Joe. This is lovely. The variation of the sky is an eye catcher - beautiful coloring throughout.

Once again thanks to all of you. Your continued encouragement is very much appreciated. Encouragement is good at any time, however, at my age it has more meaning.
Gratefully,
DeeVee,
Joe

Wonderful variations in the sky indeed , now all that is missing is a tiny island in the middle :)

I was thinking of a distant island or a sailboat and decided against it at the time of posting. There is a posibility that I will update it at some time in the future.

Beautiful sky, Joe, and I couldn't agree with you more about its importance in landscape painting. :tu: :tu: :tu:

This is a follow up exercise of sky and foliage, two other important things essential to the creation of landscape images.

There is excellent movement in the palm
fronds-they say large winds The sky is lacking.I think color mainly.Maybe more movement.

The emphasis on the first image was on the sky, on this image it was on the foliage, the next image the emphasis will be on the water. Thank you for your input :ex:

looking good Joe...Out of the new features which are you finding the most useful with the creation of landscapes?

DeeVee

Ron, I like the spray brush a lot. But I have a problem, despite my system which I think is more than adequate, when I use it at small brush sizes below 4 it crashes frequently, so I cannot get the effect I wish. There must be a problem. I do not know if anyone else is using this brush at these small sizes. I also like the 3D maker, and I am having fun with ZSpheres.
It would be nice if Aurick or someone else could tell me what is going on. I am not expecting it though. I usually have to figure things out myself with a few exceptions.

Well the foliage is beautiful-it will be interesting to see all of these elements brought together and I'm sure a beautiful image.

DeeVee

Continuing the series of elements used in Land/seascapes, this image focuses on rock and sea.
The next will be an image with all elements presented so far. Sky, sea, Rocks, foliage.

I like this very much Joe-the rock work
is very realistic-even down to the point
that it almost appears there are shadows and light coming from and through the foliage-for me one of your better efforts.Awaiting the sky.

beautiful rocks and sea.
I justed wanted to know with what settings (On/Off) you render your image.

DeeVee
09-29-02, 12:21 PM
I used a setting close to what SC suggested to me somethime ago. I set ray at 12 and aperture at 120. I think he suggested ray at 10. In another thresd DLee say she uses ray at 9 and apperture at 90.
You just have to play around and see which works best for you.

oh ok , I used to set rays above 200 , enable everything except fog and usually my image turns out a bit blurry.

Ok, thanks for the comments on this effort. If I may ask a question, what is it that makes this image? is it because of the modeling like clean lines or something else,or is it because it is so simple?
I am always trying to improve my technique, and so an answer to these questions would be helpful.

Definately clean modeling but also the rock mat too. It seems to me the focal point for sure. Foliage is great but the rocks (right now) take the image.

As promised, hear is an image with the following elements included. Sky, sea, foliage and rocks.
With these building blocks, it is a lot less difficult to put together an image involving a combination of any of these elements.
Personally I like most of this image, However, there is an item that says Tropics more than any other, and that I am not happy with as yet. I am getting better at it but not as good as I would like. I will just have to keep practicing and I will get it eventually.

Your comments about my skies are welcomed and appreciated. I try to put a lot of effort into creating them as they are such an integral part of any land/seascape image.
DeeVee,
Joe.

Yes Joe-Very much I like-you are becoming the land/seascape master-your coloring in this is balanced perfectly-there is a calm beauty here. The sky is lovely.well done in all aspects. Is it the palm tree?(that you are not happy with)

DeeVee
09-30-02, 05:37 PM
Thanks rhom :ex: you hit the nail right in the head :ex: I think I have done more Coconut palms than I can count. I even sponsered a contest on creating a Coconut Palm , and asked for a ZScript to accompany the entry. None were exactly what I was looking for. I have tried doing a single frond and putting them together, I am geting close as seen in the image above, but the complete palm still has me beat. I will get it though, I know I will, before I die. :D :D :D

I love the layered look you are putting on the rocks...sorry I about missed your last two updates....things whiz by me so quickly that I have trouble keeping up sometimes..my apologies again. Though i am no rock hound, I love looking at rocks...each are unique and have their own richness. Were those rocks caymanite? reminded me of the stones in your online catalog a bit. I have a table on my patio where the children and I place unique rocks we find when we are at the river or at one of the creeks around here...I love to stop and pick them up off the table and roll em' around in my hand...natural art...keep up the good work on these Joe...I hope to make the time soon to get back into landscapes and waterscapes...probably when it starts turning cold here and when I want out.. :)

DeeVee

Thanks Ron. No these stones are not Caymanite
although the layered one closely resembles it. You should have the stones you picked up at the river and creek examined. Sometimes you pick up semiprecious stones and do not know it, so they just lie around until someone open's your eyes as to what they are.
