View Full Version : First Post of My Life
Hi all,
Here is my very first post, even I have been a sculptor for 13 years, and been a CG artist for 3 years, and been use Zbrush for more than a year. I just didn't have time to do make something for my own (just an excuse, haha). Oldwoman001.jpg Finally.... This is mainly a brush practice in Zbrush. I know I haven't finish yet. So please be gentle.

Well i must admit : I dont like it !!! Sorry, but i think you have overdone the details quite a bit ;) But what distracts me most is, that the model looks like someone who isnt worth getting a portrait.
But dont let this stress you

I think the forms and structure is very well done, the detail does look heavy but not sure if that's something you intended, great start to ZBrushing thou :D

Hello: My name it is Arturo, I have been working on parctical sculpture a lot, and I think that the artist that come from that field use to get good result on 3D.
I like the texture and i know that there is people with that wrinkles(more over I supouse you use photo as reference or alphas too), I only see that the shape doesn´t fit with this deep wrinkles, maybe if you play with the lower resolution(to don´t loose the details) and make more floppy skin on the neck, nasolabial fold, nose, ears,etc...
What do you think?
My best wishes with this model,
Arturo

Welcome aboard!
Not so bad for a first post :D
Have happy Zbrushing

Ps you are not obliged to sculpt human form
:( It doesn’t look like a good start for me. But thank all of you very much.
I live in the Takapuna beach in Auckland, New Zealand, where is a nice place for old people. I can see them very day. Those wrinkles are just an expression in my mind, and I do see people with those kind of wrinkles. But, as what you see, there is something no good enough. I think I can do some thing with it as what Arturo said. :D

from new zealand hey...
...nice one, im livin in palmy, but am doing my honours in wanganui school of design.
not bad for a start, but i think a little over kill on the detail, especially the pore details, should be a little more subtle.
will c ya round ZB central sometime
here is my plan. hope i can finish model her from 5 years old to 85, and learn human form from different ages.

Wow, a lot of work on this models!!!!
I like a lot the 3 first models, especialy the first one, lovely.
About the two last, i mis what I told you, more floppy skin, anyway they look like a good start. You will get it!!!!!!
Arturo
Hi Arturo,
Those models are just start for the plan. I am planning to make a small movie shows a girl growing up and getting old. It is going to take some time....
The first post I put it there is the oldest one, and I am still working on it.
I really love Zbrush, it gives a lots more details to the model.
It maybe something wrong with my internet. I feel so difficult to upload my image form both home computer and office one. I have tried to upload a new image for 18 times, but.......
Try to upload it tomorrow.

hey 3dpapa, dont get me wrong, it was just that your first post is looking like a certain german "leader", who was not famous for his human traditions. See I live in a country where a lot of young skinheads still "adore" this man. Thats why i dislike it ;-) as said dont let that stress you in any way, because thats a very subjective thing.
BTW: you could try to use a skin shader in Zbrush that makes details a bit softer without changing the model and see if that gives an improvement.
Your second post is very nice!:tu: very clean models.

really like those models moan, would be really cool to see a morph done of them once you got the ZB details in there~keep it up :tu:
Oldwoman004.jpg here we are. it is my updat of today after learning of skin shader. thanks Erklaerbar. I also did some change on my model. i think the skin weight is better.
tell me what you think so far. thank you guys. :D
I dont know what a lot of people are saying, I think the is a great first post. Its fairly obvious that you have studied sculpture and the human form as proportions and muscle def are good.
Yeah, the wrinkles are too heavy, but the lines are good, just a bit too much in some places. Also reckon the outer corner of the eyes could be pulled in a little (bit wide) and nose a little longer as old peoples nose generally keep growing.
Anyway, nice work.
Think the model and detail are fantastic!!!
I do think however either the lighting, rendering or
uploading is a problem
Does what you see here, represent the way it left your
site?
Recently, uploaded a few images as a test. ( I don't post
a lot, not too good)
What left here, doesn't look like what got there.
Look forward to seeing more from you especialy this first model
Like it!
Lets see him with skinshader and texture first. I can imagine that his skin is so much carved and aged from beeing subjected to walk under merciless sun, hardly getting any shadow. I´ve seen already some very strange looking people on the beach, who exaggerated their sense of getting some color way to far and who´s skin didnt look human any more, but like shoeleather or chimpanzeeskin... really. Too much UV-rays destroy upper parts of the skin faster than the lower layers, so your skin can look like old skin at the surface, but the layers and muscles beneath aren`t aged that much.
I cant wait to see him colored and with some neat skinshader, I think he might be not that far away from authenticy. :tu:
greets
froyd
another test with different shader and lighting. thank you bicc39, coye.

3dpapa..thats a good looking model, and your idea to make a serie of different ages looks interesting..just out of curiosity : how do you start your models ?
I mean, the "clay" approach e.a. a high density mesh that is pushed and pulled and sculpted in form... or the "stone" approach e.a. making a simple block-model that is sculpted,..divided...sculpted etc.
jantim
Great:tu:
( love it when I'm right. Happens so little)
Edit, would like to add there is not wrinkle or line that is
not authentic. I know people that look like this!!!
Whatever happens do not let the comments here influence
your style.
Best of luck. Look forward to much more.
To froyd: thanks for your explanation. I didn't think that much yet, haha:D
To jantim: I stared my model in Max, the "stone" approach. I still like box modeling for the basic form. Zbrush is just the best application for the details.
To bicc39: thank you very much for your encouragement. I will keep it up:cool: .
To myself: I am just learning the form the human faces, and also learning the alpha brushes in Zbrush. In additional, there are few things for a good post, for example lighting, rendering or uploading. I think many people still like a finished post. I will keep working on this project.
