Hi, I have a busy week coming up so probably won't be able to play with ZBrush much so I thought I play some today. I posted a couple of images of a troll that I did back in 1981 and a few guys said that it was one of their favorites and Kris said that it looked like him so I thought I do a ZB version of him. I'm trying to make it look like something today . This is one hours work starting with a base mesh of a normal man. Going to have lunch now then I'll try and finish as much as I can before the Oscars.

Cool, I like many others must have spent days staring at that image.
I was lucky enough a coupple of years ago to see it in person at Bob Burns house. I must say that it was an amazing revelation. It's amazing how well your sculpts caputer light. I allways wanted to ask you if that was a deliberate choice on your part. it seems that no matter which angle you light it with it continues to look amazing.
Can't wait to see what you do with this one.

the Troll is looking great, I remember this guy from an old Cinefex.
hes already got the great character the sculpt had, and the material and lightng is nice too.
cant wait to see more updates!
and also, I have to agree with Alex, its awesome to see such an inspiration as you have been to me, to now be posting on a great form like this, useing the same new medium I found at just about the same time. pretty cool!

Really cool idea. I Love this troll from the moment I saw a pix on Cinefex so long ago. So cool to see it in a new medium like cgi.

I guess the computer gods didn't want me to do this today. After I posted the first image which took a really long time because my internet is acting up today, I had lunch , came back to this ,worked for one hour fifteen min. texturing, was happy with how it looked so rendered an image and tried to post it. After about 45min of waiting for the internet to connect,I gave up and went bact to my model. It was acting strange so I quit and restarted. When I opened the saved model up again polys were missing. After spending about another 45min trying to post, I gave up and went to my neighbors house so I could post this. Does anybody know how I can fix this? Help please.

Rick, it looks like projection master got ya. I've had this happen before. It'll mess up either the polys or the painting, depending on what you are doing on projection master. Unfortunately I don't think there's an easy soulution to fix this.
What you can try is to export the high res mesh to LW or whatever you like to poly model in and add the poly's back by hand. I've done this before and it works. I had a unified skin hand with bad polys. I just exported the obj to LW modeler and fixed them there.
Also, it's a real good idea to save the model out before you enter projection master. Then if it messes up, you only lose the time you were in PM.
Good luck on fixing this guy. He's coming along really well...

Maybe a stupid suggestion but might the normals have gotten flipped on those polys ? If so Tool>Display Properties>Double will make them render again.
I've only had polygons dissapear when normals were flipped or I painted a texture using a solid black value. Never had the actual polygon geometry dissapear....is this something others have run into and I'm just lucky ?

Hey Rick - I would also check to make sure that no texture is on and if there is that there is no 100% black on it. Black will make polygons become transperant. Otherwise I would also suggest hitting Double in your display properties sub-menu.
Also, check the lowest rez. Are the polygons there for the lowest rez or are they gone too? If so, have they shot out to kingdom come or...

ive had a similar problem recently. the polygon ( for me it was just one )didnt dissapear however ( even though it looked like it did ). what happened to me was that one of the polygons had spiked toward the origin of the model. weird thing is. i exported the highest rez out of ZB...fixed the problem...and used reconstruct to get my levels back.
so the model was fixed ( along with the one UV point that went back to 0 as well ). but after saving that file a few times, it came back in the exact same spot. at this point i was growing furious, because there are no apparant problems with the geometry, but zbrush seems to break the file at save time. so next time i open it up, that polygon is broken. its really frustrating.
i checked if there were some sort of double edges on that poly.. or if it was separate.... or if the points werent properly welded, but none of those issues were the case.

Hey thanks everyone for the help ,but I think I'm going to have to start again. Fortunately I did save the model at a much earlier state but shouldn't take too long to get it back to where it was. I just hope it doesn't happen again. I'll try and work on this guy some after work,my internet is still down at home so I may not be able to post progress right away

It is amazing what a texture will do to a piece. I saw the first picture and thought "okay" but then the textured version popped up and it really put it over the edge. I think this is especially true in nice craggy guys like this ...
