Have you seen this (http://206.145.80.237/zbrush/media/kosta_texturing_web.zip)
It's Kris Kosta's artists in action video. It's a great video about how to apply skin. Find some high res images...go to
www.3d.sk (http://www.3d.sk)
and download the free samples if you're not a member. Also check out http://www.creativemac.com/articles/listarticle.jsp?type=downloads
and install some of these nagel brushes if you're using photoshop...I swear by them.
Also understand that your skin isn't just one layer...try searching for triple and quad shaders if you're doing a zBrush render and play with the tones. Or try searching for the words Subsurface Scattering. If doing a MR render definitely hook up the SSS shader and don't skimp on making a specularity pass.
Does someone know of a good DVD collection of skin textures/samples suitable for this?

thanks
