Just a question, to deteiling a low res model is better use Displacement map or normal map?
What's the main differnces?

normal map
, displacement does only work on high poly meshes.:) as at rendertime the mesh must be at the same polygonlevel as the mesh you created the map from.

I disagree.
Normal maps are used to give a low-poly model the look of a Hires model.
And is a standard in the game industry.
Where each poly is one to many.
the advantage of normal maps is the renderspeed.
Displacement maps are more or less the same. But displacement maps are turned in real geometry during rendering and therefore not so quick with rendering as Normalmaps.
so if you planning to animate, then go for normal maps.
otherwise displacement maps are the one to go for.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
