Hi everybody,
this is my first project 100% modeled in ZBrush using ZSphere. I've made the render in maya, using mental ray. After the import i've converted the mesh in subdiv and then added some bend deformers to curve it. Then added some lights. The background was realized using photoshop cs2.
i have had some problems for the displace because of Mental Ray craches (memory overflow....). So the zb mesh has nearly 900.000 polys but the final in maya just 400.000. Tere is also some subsurface scattering.

Look this Pixolator image  Under the Zee (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showpost.php?p=258060&postcount=3) :rolleyes:yes i know everybody is telling me this but i've never seen this image before. I was just looking for something organical that could be realized quickly (like one or two days). A fish was perfect :) I work on this trying to improve my skills using ZB.
And yes i can render using zbrush but i wanted to try mental ray disp on a complex mesh. i've used some photos to help me and this (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/attachment.php?attachmentid=8090) wonderful image as main reference for the background.

thanks for the comment ;)
I've looked your series. You've done a good work. Just concerning the shaders, a little bit strange sometimes.

destroyfred, love your model. Have a quick Q about the color. Did you intend the white line over the eye? It looks too bright to be atmospheric.
Yeah, it's a minor point-- you told us p.cowfish was a quickie test-- but I wondered how the bright white happened. While you were in Photoshop? Or, is it a result of something else?
Thanks-

hi Davinci990, and thanks for you comment.
Concerning the white line, if you look at the making off you can see that on the maya render there is a little white area. To be honest with you, i don't really know where it comes from. But I found this effect very interesting so I painted it a little more in photoshop to obtain this bright line.

That scene done by Pixolator - isn't that the one on the splash screen for ZBrush 1.55? If it isn't, it sure looks like it. I've bookmarked it to show my kids. Maybe I could come up with a ZSphere tutorial on doing a manta ray in an ocean setting, and combine it with their octopus project. The kids are currently working on Ken Brilliant's membrane tutorial for the pteradon. The manta ray looks very similiar (without the feet of course) and the coral reef could also be a chain of ZSpheres with some kind of gnarly texture. The seaweed looks like he (she?) used the snake hook brush. Wonder how he/she did the fish. Then we could experiment with fog - we haven't touched that yet - and same goes for render settings. Currently we just use the default fast render. Wow - there is so much incredible detail in that picture. I'm going to have to do a search on this forum for other pictures by Pixolator. Hmmm...this could be a really cool (no pun intended) lesson!

I was referring to the undersea link posted above that depicts a manta ray and coral. Your prehistoric fish is pretty incredible, destroyfred!
