Here we go...

I started a unit on ZSpheres last week and the 8th grade kids in my afternoon class used Ken Brilliant's octopus tutorial to creat an underwater scene. We're still having some problems with the subdivision levels, but the smoothness for many of the projects looks good. As you can see, quite a few of the kids went WAY beyond the mnimum ZSphere octopus and created quite complex scenes. We're going to tackle Ken's cactus tutorial this week and make old west scenes. I'll post the results next week. Many of the students have downloaded the ZB2 demo for their home computers - their extra-curricular activities really show! gr8pm.jpg

I wish I'd had an art teacher this in touch with technology. I'm sure some of these kids will get the spark of 3D experience they need to be interested enough to go into it later in life. Keep up the cool tutelage! :D

We're still having some problems with the subdivision levels,
Not 100 percent sure what you meant by this.

But a problem that I had when I very first started using zspheres was the adaptive skin density slider.

You want to set that slider to the maximum number that you want your final mesh to be. And then never ever touch that slider again. Only use the SDiv slider under tool - geometry to change your subdivision levels, don’t know if that helps or not, but just thought I would throw it out there.

btw - Cool models do you have any larger pics of them?
Man I wish I had zbrush 2 in 8th grade!!

i love that one. only real suggestion i would make is to increase your subdivision levels, and use more render settings.

dude, you should get meats dvd and show it to the class, then let them go to town. go get some grants for this, z is the uberest 8th grade art project EVARRRR
