View Full Version : ZORK V Almost Complete
I decided that this little critter was too good to waste on a half-****ed image, so I've taken him back into ZBrush and re-worked him. I'm not sure if you can see the difference, however I added a fair amount of detail to the torso, arms, feet, toes, fingers, hands, pretty much everywhere except the head. It took me a while, but I finally got a few wrinkles around the fingers and some nice details that im pretty happy with. Some feedback and advice would be great at this point since he's a long way from finished. I want to neaten the model up a little bit, add a fair bit more detail also.

Much improved, MJ! :tu:
Take your time...This will only get better in proportion to the time you give it, and it's already impressive!
:tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
That looks awsome MJ,
I absolutely love it, so much detail and he's so well modelled!
Tell me though, what tools was he modelled, Zsphere or normal Sphere's?
Parts, or one single mesh?
- Shane
That's a real nice looking character, well done MJ. :tu: :tu: :tu:
Thanks everyone!!!
Mr Z, this was modelled with the new ZSpheres, then Skinned with a High resolution 'Unified Skin' then modelled further as you would with a standard Sphere3d. It is all one single mesh.
Stone Cutter, you were right! This is the figure you said had the most potential right from the start, when I uploaded it in ZSphere form. Thanks for your advice, its paid off greatly.

Wow! Supercool! You seem to be a master of Z Spheres already :)
:tu: :tu: :tu:
If I may say one little critic. he looks like he's going to fall backward. But maybe he's resting against something you haven't done yet.
You are catching on fast. I hope your rapid progress continues. Well done :tu: :tu: :tu:
Thanks guys!
Codexus, he is leaning back for a reason :D
When I first modelled him, he was perched on a rock in some grass leaning forward, almost bird like. Now I kinda like him leaning back, makes him look goofy!

Heres an update. Quite a bit of extra modelling has been done to Zork II, so much in fact I decided to call him Zork III.
Tried a few variations of lighting techniques, kinda liked this one so stuck with it.
Also, this render has no anti-aliasing, I apologise for that, it just would have taken far too long to render and I was ancy to get going on another design, I'll re-render this one a little later down the track.
This is probably as far as I will go with this character (untill later down the road when I plan a compilation using all my 'z' characters. I think it's time to try somthing more challenging next.
I've learnt a whole lot working on this figure (and with help from Sensei Mentat), I want to put it all to use on a more advanced design.
Feedback would be great once again, advice also... negetive or positive.

I really, absolutely love this character. He reminds me a lot of the character from the game Oddworld...however, I must agree about his stance...it does bother me the way he stands..but, stance aside I DIG IT!

it's a beautiful model, love the nails! But he is falling backwards!
Cool model, I really am in awe of the stuff done in 1.5 at such an early stage. :tu: :tu:
KingSalami, he may be falling backwards but those feet look as though they could support an elephant. :D

It really did turn out great MJ! :tu:
Well you guys convinced me to stick with this character. Here is the fourth revision.
The textures at this date are very very limited, I didn't spend very long on them at all, there is still alot of work to be done on them.
A fair bit more modelling has been done to the character, little enhancments and skin touches here and there.
The material I have used on Zork is also not finalized, I kind of like the frog skin look, however it doesn't really bring out the details in the skin and the details on the model, in the next update I will work on improving this.
I apologise for the frequent updates, however the advice and motivation your replies give me are overwhelming and really force me to push myself even futher. I thank you graciously for that. Expect the next update to be quite a large one, as I have big plans for the texture and big plans for even more model detail.
Thanks once again for the advice and support.

(Oh yeah, too late now to change his leaning back posture :D )

Great work in all stages--these creatures--lean back due to the lack of chairs on their planet--they build extremely strong muscles by sitting on nothing all day !! :D :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :D

You stay on that bad boy, MJ!!! :D ;)
As I said, the more time you invest, the better it will get, and it's rockin'' now!
 :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
(BTW, I've gotten used to saving ZSphere tools frequently at different stages, and then you can bring them back in for modification any time!...They are really tiny in filesize... ;) )
Excellent detail, well modelled. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Ok it's getting very close to being completed, both modelling and textured.
I think it's pretty clear whats been updated here, some more modelling, many many more tiny details added to the mesh, a complete texture makover and some changes to the material. I'm pretty pleased with the way this is turning out. The next update using Zork will probably be a completed scene. I've just been using this format during the creation process of the actual model to make it a little more pleasing on the eye
Any advice you can offer would be great, and keep an eye out for the final image to come soon. Thanks for viewing this creation process with me, I've learnt alot and it's been a blast.

Awaiting the final image, MJ...Good job! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Pretty superb mate! :) Just a comment that is of personal taste...he looks too shiny! It's just a pet hate of mine about 3d art...people try to make their work stand out, naturally enough, but in doing so, they make it less realistic.
Thanks everyone!
KenH, I will try your suggestion with taking down the specularity off of the skin. Thanks!
I am moving onto modelling another creation before render my final ZORK image.
I want to render it with 500 Shadow Rays, full anti-aliasing and at a large size. The render time will be a killer. So instead I'll hold off rendering it, untill I get over the initial "I can't do anything but play with ZBrush" phase.
MJ
This turned out quite well :ex: :tu: :tu: :tu:

Looking really great MJ.
Thanks guys! I'm currently working on another model at the moment. Fortunately and 'unfortunately' the detail in my new model is of a far higher quality. I say unfortunately, because it makes me look back and this and see so much more I could have done with him (however there is still time)
MJ
This came out really cool, MJ! My only neg. comment would be that he looks like he might fall backward. Otherwise, :tu: :tu: :tu:
