View Full Version : painting tavern sign
hi! as an illustrator, I painted a lot of "pastiches" of Norman Rocwell, for advertising... It has been a real joy for me to try to do one in Zbrush! everything is Z, except the frame ,and the beer thing on the ground just push pulled in Z;Painting tavern sign was, in february 1926, the first Saturday Post cover printed in full color; think fun to try 3d on this one; http://www2.zbrushcentral.com/zbc_uploads/user_image-1033029671jsx.jpg
 Agh you did it again Marcel....
You're a wonderful painter you know :)
Keep pumping these out and i will be happy.

Hi Marcel
Epoustouflant
Rockwell not Rocwell :)
The Saturday Evening Post not Saturday Post :)
Je suis fan itoo :)
What is in 3D ? What is in 2 D ?
Pour les textures, c'était cela ?
Cela fonctionne ?
(voir le Post d'Aladin) car je rajoute souvent à "post"eriori :)

:) frenchy, merci! everything is 3d,except the print of the Mr Rockwell's pict, in the frame...

wowowow!! You are incredibly gifted Marcel. May I ask how long it took to create in Z? And how does Z compare to other tools you've used? Masterful work. Where do you go from here?

Looking good Marcel.
I must say though I have never seen a mahlstick used in that manner before.
It inspires me to get my act together and do something decent.

Very nice image! All of this is 3D. This has a great painterly feel to it. How did you possibly get it to look that way? Excellent! :tu: :tu: :tu:
Wow, that is just gorgeous. Love the way he looks...well i love everything in that image.
I was also curious do you have a rough estimate of how long it took to complete?
:) merci merci...It took two days to complete. for the question comparing Zbrush with other tools, I assume it is 3d tool: I know rather well Amapi and rhino, and have a "feel" of max and maya, and it's clear: or I do this sort of pict in Zbrush, or come back to 2d painting...for the painterly style, try that: open a sphere, drop it with texture master, export(document export)in psp. Open in psp, paint on the picture as you want, aibrush, pencil, text, so on. Save. come back in Z and open(document import open) the psp document. It goes immediately on the sphere, press pick on Text Master, and it is transferred on the 3d tool. I do nearly everything like that.. For the malhstick, I use also in easel painting, on a different way, but Rocwell did it this way, and it fit fine in the composition... So, no realism! Friendly M.

Hi Marcel
Last but not the least :)
Is it an auto-portrait ? :)
Pilou
awesome image tres tres bon. :ex: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
Wow... I read your instructions a few times thinking it made no sense ~L~ then I tried it. It works. Never realized you could drop in texturemaster and take it out then import back in... That will be very handy. Thanks.
d Lee: it's a little more tricky, as when you do twice or more, you get darker and darker: so you have to use asq soon as the 2nd time, the flat material: st, fast shader, then flat alll the others... after, in finish, you choose the ma(terial you ptrefer, orf course, don't stay in flat material! With this technique, at limit, and scanner, you are able to get a traditional watercolor on a 3d object...Hope this helps, friendly M.z

Great tip Marcel! You can do the same thing without ever loading Texture Master by using 3D Copy. :tu:

- Tu t'ai mis a employer zbrush depuis quand ?
- As tu commencer avec Zbrush 1.5 ?
- As tu un site Web ?

Can someone clarify Marcel's discription of his process? I can't quite grasp what he is saying. For example: "open(document import open) the psp document". Can you open a psp document in Zbrush? Way cool, whatever he did!
:) 3darch:just do it:make a 3d sphere;edit mode;texturemaster, drop it;in document palette:export in for example photoshop; open photoshop, putting z brush up on your screen(i mean of course just don't close it)open the document of the sphere, write anything on it, save the picture; come back to Z, where is your lonely sphere, waiting quietly; open in document the photoshop one, (import function), whow, it goes immediately on your sphere; pick it! take a coffe, that's done.. There is as i said to d lee more tricks on this manner, if you want i can explain later! friezndly M.
